Guys, I'd love your opinions on whether this is likely factory or not before I order a letter. It just seems too good to be true.

No pin for the sight and a slope of the barrel rib to the sight tells me this is a cut barrel with a replaced front sight, probably reblued at the time the barrel was cut.

The 138389 serial number is in the 2nd Model range (91,418 to about 170,000) and the sight should be pinned to the barrel assuming the barrel number matches the frame. The 3rd Model (~170,000 to 242,981) had the forged front sight. Something doesn't add up with this revolver. Photo #3 that shows the left side of the barrel has what I believe to be an applied forged sight. I see an almost invisible outline of what appears to be the slot in the rib for the grafted sight. I agree with mrcvs, cut barrel with altered sight.

I was told (or read somewhere) that the 1.5" barrels did not have caliber roll stampings on the side of the barrel. I know mine (which letters as such) does not.

Any hint or trace of an address on the top rib? Mine have had addresses somewhere on the barrel. Not to say that one without a barrel address is bogus/cut. Anything is possible with Smiths.
