Check out Ballard, a new series on Amazon Prime. All of the above were originally written as novel series by Michael Connelly, and he is heavily involved in their TV series script writing and production.

Ballard, which just began on Prime, is about a female LA cop, Renée Ballard. Very LA atmospheric, as we've come to expect. Harry makes at least one appearance, and I suspect he will show up again.

I like cop shows, and in general prefer male leads, but I do like Ballard so far. By coincidence I am rewatching Prime Suspect, also a female cop lead, though in London and in the 1990s. I feel these shows do give me some perspective on the trials and tribulations women encounter because they are women in a male dominated environment. And I find that once I get involved in shows or books with female leads, get into the character and story, I like them well enough.

The Ballard novels are quite good, though sometimes it feels like Ballard is just a female version of Bosch to extend the storytelling... Bosch is getting pretty old in the books, though he's a generation younger on the show. We'll probably start watching in the next few days.

Yes add MobLand
and just for quick fun Deep Cover. a movie length feature

Helen Mirren and Pierce Brosnan are two of the most vicious villains to come along in a long time in the MobLand series. They as the Harrigans make Tony Soprano look like a total pansy. And Tom Hardy as their "fixer" always has a lot of work to do.

Dept. Q was very good. Another decent watch is Secret City... Australian intrigue series with Anna Torv as the lead. Not quite up to some of the Brit shows but still better than most of what's being produced domestically.

Good catch, I've been anticipating it, Love Bosch, Like Bosch Legend, can tollerate Lincoln Lawyer.

Bing viewed all 10 episodes of "Ballard" and liked it. Waiting for Season 2.
Wondering want service pistol Ballard carries ?

Looks like a 2011 of some sort... Staccato? The books were never very specific about her duty weapons.

We finished the first season last night... pretty good. Elements from several of the novels were incorporated, and the story line with Olivas' is very different, so not sure what's going to happen next season.

I saw Harry Bosch mentioned, & have read most of the novels he is featured in. Good stuff !!
If you enjoy Detective yarns, I own everything Dacsheil Hammet, Raymond Chandler, & Ross MacDonald wrote.
They were the originators of the hard-boiled genre of American crime fiction, & still very enjoyable IMO.
IF you've never read them - hope you enjoy discovering them. Best Wishes, C.

Finished episode 3 last night. Maybe it will get better.
Not overly impressed......not near as good as Bosch which
was great.
Ballard's character's mood is plum sour...

Will check out Mobland.

I finished the whole thing — well, season one anyway — last night. I liked it better and better as it progressed. Looking forward to the second season.

I liked the character development a lot, how Renée's team of disparate characters evolves into a team, and how some of the initially less likable types — I'm thinking of the security company owner wannabe cop — grow increasingly three dimensional and relatable.

One thing I noticed last night is that Renée's pistol, when holstered, has its grip half way up her upper strong-side arm. While she is a good looking woman, and looks sharp with that big pistol on her side (I think someone above identified it as a Staccato), she is also quite small, and I would think drawing if for her would be quite a chore.

Not the best pic, but you get the idea:
