I just purchased this 66-1 with CSP772 stamped on the side. It is in very good condition, but I can't find much information on it. Anyone have any knowledge and possible value for this weapon? Thanks in advance.

Can't help with value but you have one of the approx 800 'blued' Model 66's made for the Connecticut State Police. Most are in the 4K range and shipped in 1974 but yours appears to be one of the 9K's that shipped in 1977.
Very nice example. I've seen a bunch with a lot more finish wear.

Some people like to collect law enforcement guns. Try getting a S&W letter for more details if that is your interest.
The target hammer is probably after market, but nice!

Great score ! Blackened stainless. I believe the Troopers were allowed to purchase these when they switched to Beretta 92. The last issued revolvers. I agree that the hammer is aftermarket.

A former CSP Trooper, I was issued one, NIB, in 1980. Department regulations stated your duty gun had to have a dark finish, no nickel or SS guns. You had the option of using your own gun as long as it was a Colt or S&W, 4 or 6 inch barrel, 6 shots, and chambered for .357 mag. Checked by the armorer at each qualification.

The "blackened" finish was not as durable as real blueing, and it showed on guys guns who did a lot of holster work. I never cared for the balance of the 66 when D/A shooting, and replaced it with one of the first 586's that came out. We could have bought our 66's for something like $250, but I didn't. We also could have bought a new Beretta 92 in a one time deal, at something like two hundred bucks and change when we switched out from revolvers in 1985(?). I regret not doing that buy.

Congrats! I was texting the guy within the first hour but wasn't fast enough. I'm happy to see this deal went to someone on here who would appreciate it.

From what I found online as I waited for the seller to acknowledge my text, the coating was "PBX finish from Fountainplating Co West Springfield, MA."
