Couple of A/C at air shows our group displayed our WWII USAAF collections for the public. The A/C from the movie " Tora, Tora, Tora" when we met the owner/ pilot. We hired him for our display at Jamestown MTA the next year. Pic of A/C buzzing Jamestown.

Is that a Japanese "VAL" — Aichi D3A dive bomber - in the last two photos?

Then it's the Nakajima Ki-84 Hayate, the later model (?).
Yep, AKA Frank, a very capable aircraft by all accounts. I'm trying to find the USAAF comparative testing report that was generated after WWII that tested many Allied and captured Axis fighters. From what I recall of those tests (seen in a book years ago) the Mustang was the fastest running downhill, the FW-190 had the best rate of roll and the Corsair had the best rate of climb, although several Japanese types ran it close.

Edited to add link to WWII aircraft performance website. Go to the Japan tab and click on the Ki-84 link.

A/C was made up Val from a US trainer. We met so many owners/ pilots that was amazing. My mean cocker spaniel almost got a ride in a P-51 Mustang but pilot got sick IIRC. Everybody liked him as he was nice looking and ok around guys. Got invited up to Dover AFB for the roll out of " Shoo, Shoo, Shoo Baby" in 88. Took my Dads MAAF uniform and about 50 pics he took to display and 3 of us wore original WWII USMC camo uniforms just to " be different" as everybody else was wearing USAAF uniforms. Was standing behind my display table when 3 Gentlemen came up looking at the pics and Dads uniform then me. Finally one asked, " what the h+ll is going on here"? Explained uniform and pics were my Dads and I dedided to wear USMC uniform to be different. They all said ok and we flew off these fields! Amazing and they asked if I knew a few guys as I told them Dad had gone to a few reunions. They gave me one guys name to ask my Dad if he knew him as they were trying to find him for years and one of their phone number. My Dad didn't know him and I called the guy and told him.

My father was a Navigator in a B-58 Hustler, so obviously, it is my favorite aircraft. I believe it looks awesome, and looked fast even when sitting still! In 1967, we were living on Bunker Hill AFB (now Grissom AFB) in Indiana. On a training mission over Texas, his plane was disabled and the crew had to bail out. Unfortunately, the parachute on my father's escape capsule didn't open. I was six and my brother was three. If you ever make it to the Air Force Museum at Wright Patterson AFB in Dayton, Ohio, they have a B-58 Hustler, as well as, an escape capsule to view. I went about 30 years ago and it was a very emotional experience seeing the display. The plane ended up being very expensive and difficult to maintain, and had what the Air Force deemed too many accidents. It was taken out of service after a rather short period of time. Here is a picture of the plane.
