National Dog Day

Aint that the truth. Every time I lose one it kills me, and I swear that's it, never again. The next day I'm searching for another.

Exactly! I thought I was done getting more dogs, and then I saw Midnight as a puppy in the Irving Animal Shelter, and I was hooked. I shouldn't have looked, but I think I secretly wanted another black dog!

The pictures above, of Sailor Boy (in what I call the dead cricket position - which cracks me up every time I see a dog do that) and the other mutts resting comfortably, simply require me to add one more picture:

Upside-down sleeping dog - how can this ever be comfortable, but there it is!

This is an old pic , but a favourite of mine
On the left -my rescue mastiff "chunky" ,he was stolen from abusive losers who were literally starving him to death . lived out his life in a loving home
Centre - my best friend " Kevin" my once in a lifetime dog . Amazingly smart dog
been a year and a half , I still can't talk about him without my voice cracking
On the right was "sierra" our sweetheart Rottweiler - loved her , so many medical issues the only correct thing to do was let her go on ahead and wait for us at the bridge
All three of these friends are gone but will never be forgotten

Dogs are good working animals for rescues, mauling felons, etc.

But for a companion animal cats are far superior.

Dogs are stinky, potentially highly violent (even lethal), and much more stupid than cats. Pit bulls (sorry, "pibbles") kill hundreds of people per year. Including many many children.

I don't need Mr. Whiskers to sniff out bombs or attack people like K9s do. I need them to demand kisses and scritches and be snuggly wugglies. Cats excel at that if nothing else.

Well I'm not sure how well a cat would do at being a construction buddy , but I'd be willing to try if the cat was into it :-) IMG_1451.webp

I'm tired, sad and depressed. It was a miserable day at work. Fido will comfort me, climb in my lap and cuddle. I'll feel better.
Kitty Kat will stalk off with tail in the air thinking "How dare he ask me to cuddle with him! Where's my food?"

Mine does not do that.

That's true and explains the uselessness of cats.

That's patently false. Cats are great companions when they're in the mood. The loyalty of dogs is unmatched anywhere in the feline world.

Wrong on every count. Typical cat owner prejudice. Dogs CAN BE stinky, but if they're clean they smell just fine. Dogs are not potentially violent any more than cats. Do you know how many birds are killed by cats every year? And if you think cats are even one-tenth as smart as dogs you've been living on a different planet. Cats DO NOT DO ANYTHING! They're cute, fuzzy, okay, cuddly sometimes, but let me know when there is a cat show with trained cats. I want to see trained cats. I want to see cats catching frisbees, jumping through hoops, running up and down ladders, through tunnels, dancing with their owners, etc. I could go on and on. Okay, they kill small rodents. Yippee for cats.

That is not only a flat-out lie, it's also a flat-out misstatement of facts and statistics. I won't say that dogs don't sometimes kill people, but the numbers are not even close to that dramatic. It's a total fiction, a made up statement by someone who dislikes dogs. (n)BULL:poop:

That's what I said. They are useless little fur babies, cuddly, cute, with no redeeming qualities other than cuddly and cute, and their very being is mostly aloof unless fed. FEH! Oh, my girlfriend has at least 4 cats. So I qualify as knowledgeable!!!

I'm a dog person but cats are cute too. I'll watch a lot of cat videos (not as many as dog videos of course) on Youtube, especially ones of kittens. My favorites are the big dogs with the tiny kittens. My sister always had fluffy orange cats and they all enjoyed me as much as I enjoyed them.
