Dallas TX where to go to find a great old S&W

Newer? Older collectible? Lot's of pawn shops but whether you find a nice S&W at any given moment is a crap shoot. My favorite pawn shop is Roy's Pawn & Gun, only guns and jewelry, at 635 E Irving Blvd, Irving; I've been buying S&Ws there since 1989. Say "hi" to Roy for me if you go by.
Euless Guns (1200 W Euless Blvd, Euless) usually has some. Collector's Firearms (5304 Alpha Rd, Dallas) sometimes has a decent selection, not inexpensive though, and you can check their inventory on line before visiting. On the north end, Gunmaster (5001 K Ave #102, Plano) and The Bullet Trap (2608 K Ave, Plano) usually have some. Lots of other LGSs but whether you'll find a "great used S&W" depends on how lucky you are on any given day.

Definitely older vintage Smiths. A nice M1917 made post WW2 or a nice 1950 in 44 special.
It's been a while since I lived in DFW (92-96) but great pawn shops abound. I would sometimes take a day off and get to 12 or so in one day. Cash America (HQed in Ft. Worth) had one in Arlington that specialized in guns. Unfortunately I can't remember the address, plus things have likely changed over the years. Happy hunting.
Best option is a three hour or so drive to Tulsa’s big show !

You drive pretty fast.
Ray's Hardware and Sporting Goods on 730 Singleton Avenue has maybe the largest inventory of guns overall of any gun store in Dallas I've seen. Whether they have a decent inventory of used S&W at any given time is a crapshoot. They distinguish between guns they have in stock vs guns they would have to order on their website for new guns, but I don't believe they show in-stock inventory on used guns, so I would call ahead.

I haven't timed it or driven up there lately, but I think it takes me at least four hours, maybe longer, from Denton- but I probably drive slower than most!
That is moving Dallas to Tulsa is 258 miles depending on where you start and where you end up. Google says a tad over 4 hours.
I have driven from Norman, OK to Dallas and it takes about 3 hours I have also driven from McAlester, OK to Dallas and it too takes about 3+ hours. I have made those trips a few times each, but it has been maybe about 15 years or more since I have.
You should try any of the large gun shows in the DFW area.
I would not recommend the Premiere show in Mesquite, unless you like toys, beanie babies, homemade jams and jellies or Glocks and AR's...

Pretty much what you'll find at all the DFW shows, Ft Worth at the Will Rogers Center is better. . . . .sometimes. The annual TGCA show in Denton in October will probably be ok.I would not recommend the Premiere show in Mesquite, unless you like toys, beanie babies, homemade jams and jellies or Glocks and AR's...
The DACA shows are also worth looking at...

There’s a gun shop in Whitesboro just north of Dallas. Called “Past and Blast”. They usually have a good selection of older revolvers and pistols.
Ray’s was good. No vintage Smith to talk about, but a great store. The young guy who helped me was really nice and super helpful.
Roy’s Pawn and Gun was really thin in the S&W area. They really only had newer stuff.
M25max, unfortunately the large brick and mortar gun stores aren't what they used to be sadly. The online auction sales model has forever changed the way gun stores do business and the amount of inventory they keep. There was a time a couple decades ago when the above named stores had tons of very interesting used (and new) guns. Now those named stores probably do as much if not more of their gun business on GB than via walk-in traffic, so the desirable guns don't remain available onhand for very long.

Years ago, two Dallas gun shops really stood out among the rest- Ray's and Buckhorn (downtown). Lots of older and desirable guns of all kinds.

You never know, just have to hit it at the right time, I've probably bought a hundred or more there over the years. Nice older S&Ws have pretty much dried up though at most places. We still see folks coming in with "gramps old gun" which may be just that or may be a nice old S&W or Colt, but more, and more those seem to be going to auction houses/sites too.
It is true, the quality of the DFW shows continue to get worse and worse. Except for the newer Lewisville mall show, which has been pretty good the last two times I went. I made the Frisco show a month or so back, complete waste of time if you aren't looking for brand new guns or non gun related items.

I was curious about the relatively new Frisco show but haven't been. Thank you for the report. I am not familiar with the Lewisville show. Is it a big one or a few hundred tables?
It's about the size of the old Big Town show in Mesquite. Lots of used guns, not a lot of non gun crap.
