Alliant 300mp and Hornady180 XTP help
Hey guys
I can't find any 2400 around here so I picked up some 300 MP, but am having trouble finding load data for the 357 magnum Hornady 180 grain XTP bullet. Does anyone know if the new Hornady manual has any data for this combo? I appreciate the help!
Peter

10mm? 44Mag? In 44 mag Alliant only goes down to a 200g Speer jhp and they want you to put 29g of 300 MP under it. Reduced loads not recommended.
300 MP is slower than W296/H110 and may be out of the range you're looking for. I shoot 260g from 4&6 inch 44 revolvers and have 3 bottles gathering dust.

When in doubt contact Alliant and ask them. They are usually very helpful.

I think you did the right thing asking Alliant. After all, they know best when it comes to their powders and anything we can come up with is just a guess. Please don't forget the range report. I'm very interested in this new powder from Alliant...

Just got back from the range after trying some loads. Started at 12.6 and worked up to 14 in .2 of a grain. As with 2400, accuracy increased as the charge increased. I thought it was gonna be 13.6 as that was good and 13.8 opened up a little, then I shot the 14.0 grain and ended up with a 7 shot 1 1/8 in group at 50 yards with open sites. No signs of over charge. All in all I am very happy with this powder. It metered very well, and seemed to be clean burning also. Will be loading more with this combo.
