Anyone have any handgun (9mm,.38, .44, 45ACP) load data using Hodgdon International Clays powder?

Hodgdon has a nice reloading data web site, discovered it yesterday. All my manuals are at home or I would look for some data for you . I personally have not used International Clays so have no loads worked up. Try the Hodgdon site...can't get any better data than from the maker.

Never used it myself but I recall (or maybe it's just my imagination) that someone on the forum did call Hogdon asking for pistol load data. The report was that International Clays has weird pressure spikes when used in pistol cartridges and should not be used.

Possibly they just haven't tested it and this was standard CYA. In any case, since there are plenty of powders that have real data, I never bothered with it.

Common sense isn't so common.

Look in the cowboy action section of any hodgdon manual you'll see data there for international clays and 38spl, 44spl, 44mag, 45lc.

DO NOT USE INTERNATIONAL CLAYS IN ANY SHORT CASED PISTOL ROUNDS!!!!!

9mm, 40s&w, 45acp, etc are all no-no's with ic. It is only to be used in cases with larger capicities or like with the 38spl, heavy bullets (158gr or heavier).

This has been my go-to powder for target/light loads in the 44spl/mag for a couple of decades.

Email sent. I have done some research simply because I had some Int'l Clays on hand from a brief foray into trap shooting and didn't want to waste it. Nothing guaranteed, it's just some data I found from various sources.

I use Intern. Clays for my 38 SPC., 357M, 10mm and of course 12 ga. I really like it. Burns clean and gives appropriate muzzle velocity to everything. I go strictly by Hodgdons Published loads. I buy it by the 8# jug from a place that specializes in supplying the shotgunners. Fairly reasonable price too. ...... Big Cholla

I have been using International for over 25 years in "short and long pistol rounds" and still have all extremities. I may even have one of the labels with the original data on it for 9 and 45. Mind you I do not "hot-rod" loads. Dave_n

int clays is an oddball of the clays line.
this stuff does not like high pressure and is nearly exclusive to shotgun loading.
Trying to torture this stuff into pistol loading service will result in shrapnel.

That's some of the worst advice I've seen in a long time on this forum. Glad to see you know more that the people who makes/sell that powder. The powder mfg tells everyone not to do something because it's dangerous & you tell everyone you can still count to 10, BRILLIANT!!!! I can see a darwin award in your future.

The problem with ic is erratic pressure spikes (especially light loads!!!!!) in either short capacity cases or extremely light bullets in calibers with larger case capacity. For some odd reason the powder seller/mfg recommends ic to be used with heavy bullets in larger cases to prevent this from happening hence:
38spls ='s 158gr & up
44spl/mag ='s 200gr & up
45lc ='s 250gr & up

I'm glad you're able to use it for any caliber you like, used to use it for a bunch of different calibers myself. One of my favorite 9mm loads for plinking was 3.0gr of ic with any cast 124gr bullet. That load was extremely soft shooting & accurate in every 9mm I shot it in.

Ic is still my favorite powder to use in the 44spl, gives me excellent target loads that will shoot bugholes in targets.

As with any powder be safe & follow the mfg recommendations. I highly recommend an e-mail to hodgdon about this powder. They changed the reloading data on this powder over a decade ago.
