Looking for a cast/cheap bullet to use for practice that duplicates the vel. of my carry loads,,,
We're talking 357 125 gr. JHP at about 1400fps.
I know a cast bullet at this vel, will leave me with heavy leading,,,
So my question is,,
Has anyone used the coated cast bullets at high vel.?
How fast can you push them?
Which brand ?

There are shooters using poly coated (Hi-Tek brand) out to 2000fps. Magnum revolver loads won't present a problem.

Groo here
It depends on the coating .
Stuff like Hi-tec will go to 2k, powder coated ?????
have seen clams for up to 3k
Few pistols will stress either.

Hy tek coating is good to at least 1600, probably a bit more.
Poefer coat can go past 3000 if you can get an alloy that will behave up there as well

1400fps is a walk in the park for coated bullets.

Some recovered pc'd bullets that were shot from anywhere from 700fps to 1400fps (upper left corner 44mag 250gr).

WOW ! Thanks for the replies everybody,,,Looks like I'll be making an investment in some coated bullets.
