460 S&W magnum reload with 200 grain hard cast?
I was given a box of 500 DRG premium quality hard cast lead 45 colt 200 grain projectiles. Can these be loaded into 460 cases? I can't find any data for any 200 grain loads other than Barnes XPB. Any info would be great! Thank you!

You can load any 45ACP/45 Colt bullets in the 460 case but using a smaller case, 45 Colt, would be a better choice.
Knowing these have to be loaded down so you won't have massive leading, & that they're very lightweight bullets, a reduced charge of medium speed powder should work, with a little tweeking.
I'd suggest using Unique. 11.5gr/Unique with a 255gr LSWC is reported to be 1056fps. I'd think 11.0grs would be a good starting point with these & you can go up/down from there.
I've used 13.0gr/Unique with a heavy plated 230gr bullet. Unique is not position sensitive.
Double check the case before seating the bullet to ensure it does not have a double charge.
(Trail Boss would be another possibility, among others.)

Thank you for the response. The 11 grains of Unique...is that in a 45 LC case or the 460 case? I have LOTS of each caliber brass. I also have lots of 45ACP projectiles which range from 185 grains to 230 grains. I've got my loading down for my 500 S&W but have not even begun to look at the options for the 460.

That was in a 460 S&W case.
If you use the same load in a 45 Colt case it'll be about 200fps faster.
(Regular LPP, CCI-300, are fine.)

Thanks again! After a bit more research and seeing what is available in my area I'm going to grab some Trailboss! I found one person on this board mentioned 200 grain LRN behind 14.5 grains of Trailboss. I also found loads for 230 grain and 250 grain plated. 14 grains of Trailboss for either load. Does that sound right? I'm going to make a new Trailboss post. Thank you for you help. I really appreciate it.

That sounds good. I've never used Trail Boss personally for a couple reasons.
Volume, not weight, is an important factor in loading T-B. Make sure you don't overfill it & crush the granules as that's a big no-no.
You can't blow-up a gun with a properly filled case but you're also limited to pretty slow max velocities with it.

Thank you. I'm okay with the slow loads. I'm guessing they would be close to 45 ACP? I will still have my full magnum 460 loads but I like to run lots of rounds through my guns. Today we shot 100 full 44 magnum loads, 20 full 500 loads and 100 tightgroup 500 loads, 20 full 460 loads and 50 45 colt loads. Here's a pic of the light show from the full 460 Hornady 200 grain loads.

Cool!
Maybe you need a shorter barrel then. I don't have that problem with my 460.
