I have used mine on 8 3/8", 6" and 4" barrel revolvers both with full and half underlug barrels. The 4" full underlug is what I'm thinking is the minimum, it strapped to the barrel fine but the ejector rod would stop the cylinder from opening with it strapped to the barrel.

Barrel mounted chronograph. Here's their website. Benefits over traditional is that you don't have to setup any equipment downrange. I went alternate route with LabRadar, but technically it's not a chronograph it's a Doppler radar. Works fine with everything I've tried; indoors/outdoors - doesn't matter.
