I have recently bought my first 10mm pistol, a Remington R1 hunter. I would like to cut cost by loading Missouri Bullet 180gr or 200gr HiTek coated bullets, but none of my reloading manuals (lyman 50th, hornady 8th, Hodgson 2015) have much data for lead in 10mm. Could anyone point out a book source for lead data? If anyone has a copy, I would like to know if the lyman cast bullet handbook covers 10mm well before I spend the cash on it.
Thanks in advance

Lyman 50th has 150 and 175 grain hardcast data.

I use Missouri 180 grain with AA#9 powder. Accurate Arms load data includes lead bullet data.

I recall that the main Lyman book has everything included whereas the Lyman cast book has only the limited lead data from the full book so there is not much new stuff you are going to find in it. I like the Hodgden reloading website very well. Go for the 180 gr data and start 5% below starting grains for lead and work up. Watch for leading of the lowest loads and you should be good. I use HS-6, mag primers and coated blue bullets. It is a very good combo for mid to high power loads.

All he data you should need in one book, the "One Book / One Caliber" series by Loadbooks USA. Most bullet manufacturers an powder manufacturers data in one source for about $10-15 depending on the source. It includes Lyman cast bullet data. Locally they are carried by Cabela's and Scheel's, or you can order direct from the company. The 10mm/40 S&W version, commonly referred to as "the pink book" because of the cover color.

Of course you can buy the current Lyman cast bullet manual too if you intend to load other calibers.

Loadbooks USA, Inc.

In case you don't recognize the cartridge on the One Book cover, it is a .41 Action Express with a Sierra bullet!

The full Lyman reloading manual has reloading data for cast lead and jacketed rounds. The cast bullet manual contains data for only cast lead bullets.

I will order the loadbook for the 10mm. Thanks for the tip, I hadn't heard of them. I do have the Lyman manual, I just didnt see too much data for lead 10mm. I was more curious if the cast bullet handbook had significantly more lead data, but the opinions seem to be that it doesn't, so no real reason to buy it Thanks again for the help.

I use as my primary sources, the loading data published by powder manufacturers. They all have data available. Some powder makers, such as Accurate Arms, have more loads than others.

Use starting jacketed data & work up. Lead bullets will give slightly higher vel & imo, slightly higher pressures, everything else being equal. A chrono is helpful.

I always thought lead would give lower pressures. It's much easier to drive even hardcast through rifling that it is a jacketed bullet.

The Lyman Cast Bullet book has six cast bullets listed, 145-200 grains, about ten or twelve powders for each bullet. Hard to find a better variety of data than that.

Rockquarry, that is what I was looking for. If it has that much, I will order it I was hearing that it only had the same loads as the standard lyman 50th, which does not have any 200 gr bullet load data. Thanks

A search of this forum will also turn up a lot of 10 m/m loading data.

My theory, over sized lead bullets seal the bore better. Better seal builds pressures slightly higher, more vel. Some will say lead is "slicker" but a slicker bullet, like moly coated, require more powder behind it to get the same vel. So I dont buy that one. There are no free lunches when it comes to higher vel.

I had searched the site and seen may loads for 10mm, but no offense to anyone posting, I dont trust load data I find online e without at least verifying in a load manual or from a manufacturer site.

Very good advice. Hard to imagine anyone using Internet data that couldn't be verified by data from a reputable source.

Have you joined the 10mm forum? There's lots of good info on that site. Here's the link to one load data page, but the scans may not show up without being signed in. I've had excellent results reloading 10mm with their data.

Funflyer, the scans showed up just fine. Thanks for the link. It gave me another source to check against. I got the one book one caliber in, but still not much data for lead. Jacketed data for days, but not much for lead, only the lyman section. I think I have enough to get started, just have to pick a powder and work it up now. Thanks again for all who helped.

Well I also got the lyman cast bullet handbook today. It has MUCH more lead bullet data than the standard book. Looks like that's where i should have started. Again, thanks to all who responded.
