I picked up a nice bunch of FC head stamp 10mm at the range the other day. I was just about to add them to my 10mm range brass when I noticed they had small primers. I suppose if I collect enough of them it will be worthwhile to piggyback onto a 40SW loading session, but Jeez.

What's next, SPP 45 Colt? I found some small-primered 44 mag awhile back, and I threw those away.

10mm has had both LPP & SPP back as far as I can remember. I started hunting Whitetailed Deer with a longslide 10mm 1911 way back into the late 80's and I remember test loads and practice ammo having both primers then.

The lesson of the last few years is that it's nice to have options.

The small primers are usually lead-free. As said before both sizes have been common in 10mm for years. Just pay attention before mixing 10mm cases indiscriminately to avoid problems when priming your 10mm brass. My experience is Federal ammunition has small pistol primers while all others are large pistol, at least generally.

Ive loaded thousands upon thousands of 10mm over the last 7 years and had never seen a sp 10 case until last summer. Not saying they werent out there but have to question how common they where, and where they were mostly distributed.

Just sort them until you have enough to setup for 10mm using small....perhaps after a 9mm session...

We saw the same reaction with 45 acp and SPP....people were outraged....toss them all out!! Blasphemy!!

I just collect and sort... SPP 45acp after a 9mm, 38 spl, 40 SW etc.

Get to leave primer assembly in place!

Get the cheapest red nail polish on sale you can find and run a stripe across them.

Why, when all you need to do is look at the head of the case to know what size primer it takes? Just don't mix large and small together and there is no problem!;);)

Same here. I have been shooting 10mm since about 1995 or so and reloading since about 2004. Never saw a SP 10mm until last year (although I had heard they existed before).

That being said I am starting to collect SP 10mm when found and plan to convert them and use exclusively for 9x25 Dillon.

I wish every handgun cartridge had a small primer pocket. Handgun cartridges are not burning that much powder. While I’m wishing, I wish all small pistol primers had enough flame to light 296/110 so there would be no reason for “Magnum” primers.

When 45 ACP started showing up with small primed cases, much of the same complaints were posted. But, my first step reloading (sometimes before cleaning, sometimes after) is inspection. I have had no trouble seeing the primer size with a glance at the case head and drop the case in the appropriate container. (machinist/mechanic most of my working life). Most reloaders can see the difference after a bit of practice...

45acp yes but I still dont find enough sp 10mm brass to bother keeping to reload. I used to throw the 45acp brass away but began seeing more and more of it so why not keep it.

Having many more SPPs than LPPs I really like both 45acp & 10mm small primer brass and have experience -0-, ZERO, Zilch, nada, No difficulties nor differences in performance.

I've even gone so far as to try SPMs for some 10mm loads.

Cheers!

P.S. I especially like the 500# once-fired Speer 45acp +P nickel small primer brass I found surfing the net for next to nothing...

For me it is about storage methods. Brass gets stored in gallon zip locks and its easy to tell if I missed one.
