What the heck, put through some Remington UMC 38 Special 158 gr RNLs through my S&W Model 10 (.008” cylinder/barrel gap, same as SAAMI vented 4” barrel used in commercial ammo tests…just saying):

Hi 782 fps
Lo 730 fps
Avg 755 fps
ES 52
SD 17

The Remington UMC factory box says “755 fps” also…just a coincidence but close enough for my work.

The SAAMI spec shows 880 fps with 38 Spl +P with 158 gr lead bullet…that is statistically the same I’m getting with my 2019 Remington +P FBI LHP loading and current Federal’s 38G +P FBI LSWCHP load from my Model 10. I duplicate these with either 6.3 grs Accurate #5 or 4.8 grs Unique.

My Model 10 is a -14, 2024 Manufacture I believe …tight as heck and made for continuous +P usage. Just don’t care for the bluing job…can’t even use Hoppes 9 on these anymore. I’ve been using Hoppes Elite Gun Cleaner or M Pro 7 Cleaner (same I understand as Hoppes Elite) and lube with Slip 2000 Gun Lube.

Yes, I do have a lot of time on my hands and I’m grateful…my body reminds me that I earned it. Lol

Remington UMC 38 Special 158 gr LRN is one of my favorites. For reloading I duplicate that load with 3.5 grains of Bullseye, Federal SPP and either a 158 grain LRN, LSWC or LSWCHP.

Great report and thank you for sharing.

3.5 grs Bullseye and 158 gr lead bullet was a favorite…Bullseye has gone the way of the extinct Dodo bird nowadays. I’ve substituted with WW231 4.0 grs 158 gr lead.
