22 jet reloads

I realize the 22 jet is old, outdated and has quirks about setback but - -

Is anyone aware of any newer powder load data for the jet other than 2400, unique, H110 and 4227?

Being an old, obsolete cartridge no one puts any effort into I have my doubts but thought I would ask.

I gave it my best shot ... my latest Speer , Hornady and Western Powders reloading Manuals ... found data on 22 Hornet , 22 K-Hornet and 221 Fireball ... but nothing on the 22 Jet !
The newest data I found was 1982 Lyman Reloading Handbook #46 !
It only had data for 2400 , H110 , 4227 & 4759 and those were with a 40 gr. jacketed SP bullet ... Not much at all !
Sorry ... but I will keep looking ... maybe the "One Book One Caliber " Reloading Guide might have something .

The powders you listed are likely the best; there is probably a good bit of data available, but it's old. I have somewhere close to fifty manuals. Just glancing at a couple of them shows this:

Hodgdon #26, 40 grain .222" Hornady Jet jacketed bullet, 6.5 grs. to a max. of 7.5 grs., velocities, 1769 - 1883, 8 3/8" barrel S&W

NRA's "HANDLOADING", 40 gr. Speer pointed soft point, 8.2 grs. Blue Dot (apparently maximum), velocity 1782, 6" barrel

40 gr. Remington SP, 4.7 gr. 700X, velocity 1755, 10" barrel

40 gr. Remington SP, 5.1 grs. Dupont PB, velocity 1690, 10" barrel

In my opinion, the powders you mentioned are probably better choices than anything I've listed here. This is old data; all the NRA data appears to be max. I'd recommend reducing the charges should you try any of it.

I have a pound of Dupont IMR 4227 and recently picked up another pound by Hodgdon of 4227 at the local Bass Pro Shops so it is available and common. It's also pretty good stuff. You should try it.
 
Hodgdon 110 is the same as Winchester 296 and it is also available. I do not care for it due to the loud report and fireball it makes. Maybe you will like that feature, I do not.
 
I use 9 grains of H110 with Sierra .223 45 grain bullets and 10 grains H110 with 40 grain Hornady and other manufacturer .222 and .223 bullets. Works fine, as accurate as I can use, and loaded down enough (I think) not to erode the barrel throat. Good luck.

Thanks for the updates. Going over my newer manuals it did not appear was anything different than in my 40 year old manuals.

Do really appreciate the first hand knowledge.

Just picked up a model 53, placed an order for some privi ammo to get the brass for future reloading. Was looking at the forming dies but can’t justify the economics. Form dies cost the same as 200 rounds of loaded ammo, should give me enough brass to work with.

Muzzle blast out of that Jet is pretty horrendous, isn’t it?
 
The factories do accept phone calls, but I believe no one has tested the Jet with newer powders for many years if ever. I don't have quick load or even know if it would be supported.
 
Form Dies Are expensive ... very true ... but they last Forever !

A lot of older shooter's , who loaded and shot this round are retiring ...

Check Estate Sales and place Want To Buy ads on the shooting & reloading sites ... a grandchild will have no use for a 22 Jet Forming Die set Paw-Paw had and let it go for a song ... the internet can help you find them .
As long as you can get 2400 and / or H110 You In Business !
