I’ve been buying my cast bullets from Oregon Trail and Penn. I’ve been very happy with their products, but I’ve also read with interest some of the discussions regarding bullet obturation and how a softer bullet may be more appropriate in some cases. Recently I tried Missouri Bullets for the first time. Their catch phrase is “Hardness Optimized” and Brinell hardness numbers range from 10 or 12 up to 18. Here’s a recap of my recent experiences. I placed my first order via their web site and they shipped the next day and arrived in another day or two. I ordered a bunch of 45 ACP “softball” 230 grain round-nose bullets along with some .38 wadcutters. I went through a bunch of the 45 bullets and although I didn’t do a formal accuracy test, they shot very well and showed no (or minimal) leading. As an aside, the 230 grain bullet shot to point of aim in my fixed-sight 1911 Colt with a mid-range W231 load. A couple of days ago I went back on the web and placed a second order, paying with a credit card. Afterwards, I sent them an e-mail saying that I saw that they have 100 bullet “trial packs” and I would have liked to have ordered one but couldn’t figure out how to do so on their web site. I asked if they could possibly add one and bump up the credit card amount to cover the cost. I got a reply back the next day saying that, no, they couldn’t adjust the credit card amount I had authorized, but they had received my e-mail before the order shipped, and had included the trial pack. “We can figure out the payment later, the important thing was to get your bullets out to you” was a part of their response. I thought that was pretty heads-up. So a good product, fast shipping, very good prices, bulk-rate shipping without additional handling charges, and an extra measure of customer care. A very good experience overall and I’ll order from them again.
