I'm no stranger to SAAs and modern Colt and S&W revolvers, but need some help on a top-break. I found what appears to be a New Model No. 3 in .44 Russian at a pawn shop. It has basically no finish left, but the metal is in good shape with scattered shallow pitting on it. I'd like to know how to check it out mechanically. From what I saw, the top latch appears to be tight, and the action seems to work fine. The cylinder has a little rotational play, along the lines of my 686-5. (I forgot to check for end play, though.) Bore and chambers look good. What should I look for? What are some caution signs? Should the cylinder have a little rotational play like modern designs, or should it be tight like the older Colt lockwork? Thanks!
Also, what's a reasonable price range for New Model .44 Russian shooters in the condition described? I have no clue here as I've just begun my research.
