Hello, I'm new to the S&W forum and this is my first post here.

I recently obtained a 1877-1878 .38 cal. break top second model revolver. It is not functional as of now but I do wish to fix it.

Once I took the side plate off, I saw that there is no rear spring for the hammer. I'm curious as to where I can locate a replacement spring. I've looked on gunpartscorp.com but the only .38 break top diagram I see is for a newer, non-spur trigger 2nd model. Would the rear hammer springs be the same for the 2nd and 3rd issue model 2's?

Thanks in advance for any insight!

Maybe someone knows, but I don't. About all you can do is to Google on gun parts and see if anything shows up for any of the other gun parts vendors. Might also check with Jack First (see his website, but you have to call and ask), also check eBay listings. Might be one of those things where you must make your own spring.

Numrich also has parts. Please post some photo's. I have some spare parts and might be able to assist.:-)

Everett, thanks for setting me up with the spring! The gun is fully functional now!
