I just purchased my first #1 (2nd change)from a fellow member of my gun club. He told me he was selling all his S&W's and he had a few old guns left.(he had to sell his collection of over 400 S&W's to avoid bankruptcy after his stores were destroyed in the '68 riots and insurance paid nothing). He had a couple of 1 1/2's a very nice New Departure (which I may buy)and this really nice #1. I bought it immediately (will photograph next week). He had another gun, an OTIS SMITH copy of the 1 1/2, that is about a 95%+ gun. Nickel finish is original and very nice, bore is clean, and grips are perfect. I really had not idea what the actual value was, so I took him at his word (we are in the same Arms Collecting club), and bought it for $600.00. It is really a nice piece. Will photograph next week also. What I am looking for is any information you might have on an OTIS SMITH revolver Model 1883 Shell Ejector.

Waiting on pix. I have never heard of an Otis Smith, although I think I arrested his brother once.
The 68 riots? Where did he live, in Detroit? Detroit never did come back after the 1968 riots. It just polarized the whole southern part of Michigan.

Len & Steve,
the Otis Smith gun fooled me at first...
It is a late 1880's gun that is stamped on the topstrap....

It looks like a cross between a 1 1/2 and a New departure, in that it ejects like a Schofield and is .32 S&W long. The nickel on this gun is about 95%+ so it looks great. A couple of contact marks on the barrel, but seems functional.

the Number 1 has a bit of blueing wear, but perfect ones are really tough to find, at least affordable ones. I paid $700 for this one and hope it was a good buy.. in any event, I wanted it.

will post images soon...
