I have a set of what has been identified as Sanderson grips by 3 grip vendors in Tulsa. I got them on a Model 1917 I purchased. I am looking for a value. They are right handed with a left thumb rest, right side top overhangs the hand and right side has small shelf that supports the hand. The grips fully enclose the frame. The grips appear to be a dark walnut. No markings in or out. A few dents in the bottom and some one roughly relieved the top center to clear the hammer on the 1917, small spot 1/2" by 1/16" and about 1/16" deep. I plan on selling them along with a set of N frame square butt Sambars and a couple of S.D. Myres holsters as soon as I establish a price and can get pictures to post. Thanks

Mike, it will be difficult to help you on establishing value without seeing the grips. You can probably do some searches here and on the auction sites and get an idea. The modification(s) that you mentioned certainly will not help the evaluation.

As a general rule, the Sandersons bring less than the Roper grips. That is simply a factor of the publicity that the Roper grips have received here and on other forums. From a standpoint of quality, the Sandersons and other custom grip makers of that era often equal or exceed the Ropers.

So the actual quality of the wood, the checking pattern, the shape, etc. can have a distinct effect on the value. As an example, since I am a lefty, I would pay a good premium for a set of left hand targets and an equal set of right hand targets would be completely useless to me except for their collectability.

Be sure to post pictures of the Myres holsters when you can also.

Pardon the uncropped pictures, but three sets of Sanderson grips are shown below. All three sets have traditional matching numbers stamped into them (see the last picture).

N Frame (Cherry)
K Frame (Fancy Walnut)
K Frame (Walnut)

I hope that helps.

Your grips do not look like Sandersons. We have had many threads with many pictures here on the Forum.....................as Jeremy has stated, Sandersons always have the matching numbers on each panel.

Your grips look like Herretts to me.

Here are some Sanderson threads to show you some pictures

Mike,

I believe that VM is correct that your stocks are Herretts. 50-60 years ago several makers (Roper, Sanderson, Herrett, G&H, Murad, and perhaps others) used similar patterns although each had distinguishing characteristics.

My vote on these is early Herretts.
