Default Garage Sale find....

Today, I stopped at a garage sale on my way home from the doctor's office. I noticed a locked clear case with several guns in it. Most were cheapies; F.I.E.'s, RG's, and a Jennings J22. In amongst these was a dirty K22. After some dickering, I got it for $300. I didn't know what to expect until it was cleaned up. It cleaned up nicely with some minor freckling here and there and a small chip in the left grip panel. After investigating, found out it was a 1953 vintage K22 Masterpeice. Needless to say, I am extremely happy at my good fortune. This is one I have wanted but they were usually way out of my price range. Just goes to show; you never know what to expect when you drive up to a garage sale!

You did great, nice find. It's the fun of the hunt. You can savor that memory of "hitting paydirt" and that K22 for a long time. And it makes up for the 50 or so other garage sales where we come up empty handed.

Excellent score. I have K196xxx (not shy, just can't remember), and I paid twice as much for it.

Your lucky day. Smiles all around.

My thoughts precisely. I always enjoy the anticipation of walking up the driveway, never knowing what you may find......or when someone walks into the gunshow with a guncase trying to guess what's in it.....anticipation. It sure is fun, especially when you find that great piece!

Helilogger, that ole sayin came true for you. "Some day a payday" Nice score. I found a gun for a friend of mine, an early Belgium Browning Sweet 16 in 98% for $700.00. When the money changed hands the seller told me he paid $200.00 at a garage sale. OK, glad you made money. It was still $500.00 below value. You just never know. Enjoy.

I DO intend to shoot it! If it shoots better than my 4" pre-lock 617, I will be very happy!

Not to worry! That 5 screw will be shooting circles around that 617 in no time! Well done!!

The gun deal was much better than the doc visit. I had hernia surgery Monday and am slow to heal. This gun purchase made me feel a lot better!

That is a hell of a score at a garage sale. Only things I have found worth buying are step ladders and outdoor extension cords. Everyone needs at least one K22. Yours looks really nice.

I guess that'll do for an "old gun."

Congratulations. Heal quickly.

Great find!

The only gun I ever found at a flea market was an H&R topbreak .32, in pieces in a cigar box...but that only cost me $10...

Still, part of the fun is that you never know...

Even a blind squirrel finds the occasional acorn... My best yard sale find was probably 4-5 years back when I found a box of 30 carbine ammo on a picnic table for 3 bucks, and when I made the statement "wish you had the gun to go with it", and the guy says "I do...hang on a minute". I went home with the carbine, sling, a half dozen mags, and a full box of Remington ammo for 90 bucks.

My best one was a 444 Marlin, .270 Ruger #1, and an S prefix Model 29 for $700. Also included "hundreds" of rounds of ammo for all the above!

That M1 Carbine deal smokes........!!

We've just hit upon one of the tricks of yard sale/garage sale buying. Stop and look. If you see anything that hints the folks might have a family member who is into outdoors activity, ask questions. Innocently. Particularly if you see any ammo or hunting stuff. Often yard sales are participated by someone passing away. Often the lady of the house has no interest in guns or gun accessories. But they may also be reluctant to put out "evil" gun stuff, out of fear of legality or scaring off lady browsers. A polite question often results in fishing rods or a room full of gun stuff. It includes reloading accessories, even if the guns were all pilfered by other relatives. Even if some of the stuff has value, often its difficult for a woman who isn't interested in the guns to figure out how to realize it needs to be sold in a specific way.

For most its not worth going to a gun show and sitting for 16 hours while our members attempt cheat them (or not, they may have no clue as to the selling prices.)

My oldest has a Lyman reloading kit I picked off at a large flea market 20 years ago. It was at a flea market booth and labeled as a "bottle sealer for soft drinks." Sold for $25 after I had to negotiate for a while. The people selling it didn't have a clue it was a gun item. They just somehow came into a garage full of stuff. If I'd have asked them for gun stuff, they wouldn't have known. You've also got to look and understand.
