I found an S&W Model 101. It is a K-frame model 10 bull barrel that will chamber .357 mag. even though the barrel says .38 special. The rear sight is a blade pressed into the frame. It has a target trigger and a semi-target hammer and is a four screw.
Can anyone help me with info on this?
I don't want to pay to much if I decide to pull the trigger.

I asked the same thing in a thread. Lots of views and no answers.

http://smith-wessonforum.com/s-w-revolvers-1961-1980/201150-model-101-made.html

I stand by my thought that these were made by some custom shop with one really good gun smith who knows how to work with steel and knows the workings of a Smith and Wesson revolver.

I think we are watching the same item right now. Don't post a link or you will get this thread deleted. No open bids can be posted.

Price? Since it is a full custom, I would say it is as much as you want to pay. It should have no collector interest since it isn’t a production gun. Unless it was used or ordered by someone with some notoriety then I would say as a guess it would be valued at roughly $600 tops. But if there is some link to it to make it worth more I am not the one to know what that would be worth. Commemorative guns almost never increase in value, special versions almost never increase in value, and guns that have been altered almost never increase in value. But guns that a certain person ordered, carried, were in a movie, were special factory orders, or only made in a limited run will usually see value increase. I suspect no one wants to be tied down to a real answer on this but many are thinking what I’m saying here.

Its local and I got handle it. Lock up is the tightest I have ever seen on a Smith and it has been shot.
The owner thinks it might have been a special order from smith or an in between model. He has no answers.

Are you able to post a photo? We promise not to buy it from under you if we can't find out where it is ;) .

Looks like a Model 10 with a bored cylinder......:)

I think it is a 10-1 (missing the dash, which I think was discussed in another thread), with a K frame .357 cylinder and rear sight blade added. This must have involved shortening the forcing cone (barrel shank) because the .357 cylinder is longer than the .38. I suspect it is not a factory model or modification.
