Is it kosher to use these cheap, Duramite Fitz Ten-O's on my 5 screw K-22?

Shot silhouettes with them this morning, and maybe I'm dreaming, but they fit my hands better than these fancy rosewoods.

I sure like the feel of them, but plastic stocks on a vintage Smith just doesn't seem right. :o

What say you?

What Sebago said. Also, since the K22 is a target gun, it is appropriate to use what fits your hand best. The fact that they are not only period correct, but actually target-style grips, certainly helps. Leave 'em on.

agreed
Don't wood, thumb-rest target stocks typically cost over $100?

Good ones, such as custom Herretts are alot more than that... If you gun is after 1953 or so, you would be correct to mount a pair of Smith non-relieved diamond targets in walnut. If after 1956 or so, a pair of the same, but with the "football" cartridge relief would be correct also.

Well, it's a '53, so I think I'm just gonna shoot it with the Fitz Ten-O's for a while.

The Fitz grips look great and anyone more than a couple feet away could never tell they weren't wood. Keep the wood grips in the safe and use the Fitz grips for shootin'.

Ahh...that looks much better. :) I love the look of the magnas on my K22, and actually I shoot pretty well with them, but I've got the feeling I'm going to shoot much better with the Cocobolo target stocks I just ordered from Kurac. Magnas are a bit of a struggle for guys with big hands like me, so if you shoot better with the Fitz grips, use 'em.

I put a set of Fitz thumbrest on my pre-war Outdoorsman for a while. Sure are great for shooting.

doc540 it's like the flea said when he bit the elephant in the "nether regions" ,"Everyone to his own taste!". If it feels good do it, if it improves your shooting,do it, if it troubles you ... DON'T do it! BTW does the 540 in your screen name refer to a well known rotor system? Nick

No sir, "5 series" "4.4 liters" - my fav drivers

Thanks

The Fitz grips are definitely period correct for your K-22, and were very much appreciated by serious target shooters in the 50s. I still have my Dad's K-22, which he bought new in 1954 or 1955, and the magnas were replaced with Fitz 10-0 grips almost immediately. The gun is still like new, and still proudly wears the Fitz grips (I believe the original diamond magnas are in the drawer of the gun cabinet, too). The Fitz grips still work well for me, much better than magnas, which practically disappear in my large hands. Enjoy that K-22!
