Need a little help to make sure I am correct. Bought this pistol today. I think it is a M&P 1902 nickel plated pistol. The serial # is 333XX...Have I got the date right right at 1902-1903. I am pretty sure the stocks are incorrect for this model but please let me know. I tagged some pictures along with this post for someone to help me evaluate condition and price. Your help would be more than appreciated. Are nickel guns fairly common for this model. The barrel length is 5" Thank you in advance.

Yours would be a very late Model of 1902, likely ca. 1904. I believe the proper grip panels would have been made of hard rubber.

Probably late 1903. Its an original model of 1902 - note there
is not a shoulder on the barrel where it meets the frame. This gun should be fairly
close to the end of original model of 1902, at which point the 1902 1st change occurs.
33804 is supposedly the first 1902 1st change, during 1903.

There were only around 13000 of these original 1902's, so considering their survival
rate, these are relatively scarce guns. An original 5" nickel would be scarce, but only
a letter would confirm the original finish on the gun.

As Mike suggests, you should get a factory letter to determine original finish ( unless the serial number on the barrel has a small "B" stamp in front of it, which means the gun left S&W as a blued gun) . I do see a pit on the left side of the frame near the grip that seems to have nickel in it. If so, that's an indicator of a refinish. The grips are hand made Magna style and not correct. Ed.

That is the first thing I noticed and for some reason it did not look right. Some of the nickel M&Ps I have seen did have blued knobs and extractor stars, but others had nickel, so not sure which is correct.

I wanted to add that I think I can see softened lettering on the barrel marking as well, so my opinion is refinished and maybe even chrome??
