TL 3" Belly Gun
Few things just make my old heart beat faster but this is one of them!
It's still out in West Texas and it most likely has an old law enforcement history.

Nope. But at this point in my collecting life if the owner showed up at my front door I would consider offering him the pick of my RM's if he would just leave this one behind.

Do I see a bead on top of the blade? I like to see how folks customised for a purpose. A bead could speed up seeing the front sight. Nice old gun.

That is a very cool gun! As you say, it would be fascinating to research its history. And it would be a perfect carry gun, even today!

Bob, do you think that is a factory 3.5"? Are the patent markings centered on right side of barrel or is it just cut-off with sight reattached? Either way it's a neat gun! Makes me think of the old Skeeter Skelton story about the mysterious man in black that came to visit. He had a short barreled TL that so impressed him and Joe.

ucla,
No, it isn't a factory short barrel but it was done by a very competent gunsmith. For instance, besides giving an improved sight picture the little gold bead also compensates for the necessary sight adjustment with the shorter barrel.
Sorry to be so slow in responding-had to work in a little hernia repair surgery yesterday. :-(

Hi Bob
Not to steal your thread but here is my favorite short barrel model.
This is the only one made in this barrel length by the factory. But i guess if you are the president of the factory you can get anything made.
This gun will be in my display at Ohio the end of the month.

Jim,
I'm always glad to see the Herreshoff gun. It is certainly one of a kind and impossible to look away from.
Sunny and I look forward to being with you and Judy and all the gang in Ohio.
Just a heads up, there will be an NRA collectors show in Dallas on August 1, 2, 3. Hope you can be there. I'm working on an 18 gun display of the evolution of the .44 Spl. for it. Sorry that I can't get that one up to Ohio.

I agree, John. It is not only attractive, but very functional and should be significantly faster with the tiny top strap groove on those old guns.
I also have a love affair with old jigged bone grips and those are some of the nicest I've seen--been there a looong time, I'd guess.
