Aside from the characteristics such as frame size, butt style (square or round) and changes in checkering pattern and medallion over decades of production, Magna square butt grips also have a square bottom edge or a rounded bottom edge. Yet I've not heard of any nomenclature to distinguish them.

The square butt Magnas with a rounded bottom edge appear to be mostly found on fixed sight guns, while the sharp bottom edge version appears to be mostly found on adjustable sight guns. Is there a "target" and a "service" version of the Magna grips?

(I say "mostly" because I have seen some exceptions. My wife's Model 63 square butt has rounded bottom edges.)

PC is a common designation for the rounded bottom grips, PC meaning Plain Clothes. Less clothing imprint, less wear on jacket linings. The first mention of the PC grip is in the 1952 catalog. In that catalog, the company lists and illustrates three types of grips for the .38 Special M&P. These are described as the square butt, the modified square butt (AKA PC) and the round butt. The PCs were not used on the target (K-series) revolvers.

The only N-frames that came standard with PC mangas was the Model 58 and the scarce 520....both 4" fix-sighted wheel guns.
