First day on the forum. I am trying to find the person known as "Masterpiece" to help me identify a pistol I have. Supposedly came directly from Harvey. 8 3/8" barrel; marked 22 magnum but is the K-Chuk. No other marks in particular. Serial number begins with a "K" and is 5 digits. Help!

The barrel sounds like it is from a model 53 in .22 Jet. I have a M53 with the extra .22 LR cylinder. If I ever find another M53 .22 LR cylinder that is affordable, I may chamber it for a .22 Hornet variant ( which is what S&W should have done). Re chambering the cylinder should be the only work required, and since the M53 cylinder is longer, more cartridge options may be available.

So the next question for Mugwump2 is whether the barrel has a barrel shroud around the ejector rod like a Model 53 (or Model 19), or is the ejector rod exposed? The former would point towards a Jet, the latter to a Model 48 (which should say .22 M. R. F. CTG.) Does the hammer have a lever that moves the firing pin striker for centerfire or rimfire?

OK Folks. I finally got my hands on the K-Chuk I have been asking questions about. The barrel is 8 3/8" and is marked on the right side ".22 M.R.F. Ctg." "Smith & Wesson" on the left side. The chambers appear to be fully recessed with tapered chambers and a very slight shoulder (if any). The hammer is a centerfire hammer and appears to have come from an earlier K-frame. The front sight has a brass bead set into the face of the front sight. The rear sight looks to be a standard white outline K-frame sight.
The ejector rod is not shrouded. The firing pin hole is bushed with firing pin mounted on the hammer. Again, the hammer appears to be an original K-frame early hammer. This is a 5-screw pistol. (pre-K?)

I have misplaced "Masterpiece's" address. I will get some pictures posted by tomorrow. This gun has no other markings. I am trying to get an idea of value. I do not believe it has been reblued and finish is 99+%.

Sounds like a pre-Model 48 .22 Winchester Magnum Rimfire that has been rechambered to .224 Harvey Kay-Chuk, firing pin hole relocated, and a centerfire K-frame hammer swapped for the rimfire hammer.

I am doing one a bit different. Going to mill a model 10 frame for adjustable sights. I have a 6" model 14 barrel and some .224 barrel I am going to use to line it. I also have a K frame 22 cylinder. The 22 Harvey Kay Chuck reamer just arrived. But, it is almost Deer and Elk season so it will all have to wait till Dec sometime.
