Is the butt swivel/landyard ring the same for a Model 1917 and a Military and Police?

I need an original butt swivel/lanyard ring for my Model 1917.

A member here has one he can sell me, but he says it's for a Military and Police. Did they use the same butt swivel/landyard ring or is there a different one used for the Model 1917?

The same lanyard ring fits the K-frame, N-frame and the 1917 Colts.

There are lanyard swivels with a longer stud; the length between the shoulder on the lanyard base (where it meets the gun butt surface) and the end of the stud. They do not fit my S&W 1917 without shortening the stud.

I do not know what the longer stud fits but I'll give you my 1917 stud length for reference, it's original to my gun:

And of course that's indicative of the hole depth in the grip frame butt.

Let us know what you find.

FYI, some details about swivels from Lee Jarrett: "There are actually THREE verified varieties, and I suspect FOUR are possible.
1- Originally, swivels have a pin through the lump or boss to keep the loop centered. It is ground flush. Swivels were always case hardened, but
2- June 1, 44 Eng. Order eliminated pin- "new method makes pin unnecessary". I suppose that means there is a partition in the hole for the loop and the loop is folded in. If anyone has one with no pin, tear the loop out and tell us please.
3- Dec 20, 44 Eng. Order changed Case colored (don't expect a lot of vivid colors) to sandblast and blue because case colors were not uniform."

If the M&P butt swivel being offered IS an S&W swivel, it is fine for your 1917 IF it is case colored.
I'm assuming your 1917 is a Pre WW II gun.
If it is a Post war Commercial gun, it needs a blue swivel.

All the elongated butt swivels are the same up to WW II.
They are case colored and have the same stud that goes into the frame.

I do not know if they are dimensionally the same as a Colt swivel, but I doubt it.

With regards to #2 above:

Although it was likely presumed already since the ring didn't move back and forth, yes, there’s a partition in the 6/1/44 lanyard swivels w/o the pin. But I didn’t tear the loop out. I was cleaning one today to install and put a couple of drops of penetrating oil in one side of the boss to see if it would run out the other side. It did not; must be partitioned.
