My friend is looking to establish fair market value on this one. RE nickeled 1926 4 inch 3rd model. Has a letter that it left factory in nickel finish. Any help appreciated.

Grips appear to be Wolf & Klar. Remove them carefully and check inside. They will likely have matching Roman numerals carved in each side. Did the letter say where the gun shipped?

Yes. Was shipped to them. Total 2 guns. At some point it was in collection. Of Hank Williams JR.

It's a nice gun, but it has been refinished. A refinish does not make a gun in this configuration worthless, it just hurts the value. I can't see why the gun wouldn't bring 2K especially with the W&K grips. An original gun in this configuration in the same condition may bring 5K. One in higher condition or NIB condition would be substantially more.

I have 31858 shipped 7/6/28. But mine is the much more common 5" barrel. I agree that it is a very sought after variation but being refinished (and rather poorly with plated hammer and trigger) destroys collector interest. It is a collector gun in shooter grade. I would not be surprised to see it sell for $1,000 - $1,500 without the stocks which add another $700+ in my non expert estimation. Call it $2K as being a good ballpark figure. Could go higher at auction. Could go unsold.

PS: I REALLY do not want to sell or trade this gun. Seems recently when I discuss a revolver somebody wants it.

Thank you everyone. I will be posting it for sale. If anyone will be in interrsted, I will provide my friends contact info. PS. HE also has an 03 C&R.

A neat gun and the fact that Hank Jr. once owned would help value at least to some of us.

Without some kind of official documentation, the statement that Hank Williams Jr. once owned the gun is worth zero. "Buy the gun, not the story." The owner will need to provide provenance for that to add any value. Being an obvious non-factory renickel doesn't help either.

Well. The letter from S&W was sent to Hank Williams JR. That's a good story :) Did You see the letter ?

Ah. Good point - I did not look at the address at the top of the letter. :o Although to be pedantic, anyone can get a factory letter for a S&W if you know its basic description and serial number. I could get a letter for this same gun, doesn't mean I own it. ;)

I enjoy country music, more so Hank Williams Sr than Jr, but the fact that Hank Williams Jr one owned this firearm adds ZERO to the value. It is an anecdotal story in this gun's history, but nothing more than that.

The fact that Hank Williams Jr. once owned this revolver, may not raise the price to a Smith and Wesson collector. I'm sure there are Hank Williams fans, who are not firearms collectors, would love to have any firearm that Mr. Williams owned, and some may be willing to pay dearly for it.

Maybe...I just can't see paying more for it.

Please note my corrected post. I meant to refer to the history of the gun, as in this revolver, not the history of the guy, meaning Hank Williams Jr.
