I have had this S&W model 19 no dash for a long time. It is beautiful with just a little blue loss on the front left side of barrel and a turn line. It also shoots very well as the action is tight and smooth. Serial number K343XXX puts it about 1959 when they knew how to make great guns. A guy I know has been wanting to buy this from me for a while now. I am wondering what this gun might be worth these days? I just don't see any no dash 19's for sale to get an estimate from so I thought I would ask you good folks. So, how much should I sell it for?

Don't see many for sale myself; locally can't remember the last one.........average used and not abused 4" 19s are IIRC $700 these days......

Your's is IMO really clean...... so if he really wants it 'd ask $900-1000 or a "friends and family" price would be closer to $600 if you don't need the gun or the money!

Remember even "friends" have been known to buy ..... and flip a gun for big $$$$. So "Seller Beware!"

Remember there are 4 gun prices:

1. What a LGS will give you on trade...... about 50% of what they think they can sell if for
2. Local Retail ....... Market
3. National Retail........ places like Calf., Mass really skew the marketplace.
4. Friends and Family pricing....... hey their family :D

I disagree with that $700 mark.

A NIB pre-19 sold the other day on gunbroker for $3200

A 19-3 in similar condition to yours (with a box) but a -3... sold for 1125

A -4 went for 1225

a -2 (with diamond stocks) went for 1425

And it goes on.

The closest gun to yours I have seen lately sell is slightly better, in that it has the box, but

S&W BLUE .357 COMBAT MAGNUM MODEL 19 ORIG BOX PAPERS 4-SCREW MFD IN 1958 - Revolvers at GunBroker.com : 868842134

See for yourself in this completed auction.

$700 for a good condition model 19 no dash is really really low. I'd say, conservatively, your gun would go for a minimum of $1200 in the current market. Maybe as high as $1500-1600. These things have jumped in price dramatically in recent times, especially the early ones.

The $700 price point I was speaking to was for a used but not abused/average .... 4" 19s in general....... maybe add a $100 for Pinned and recessed guns ( up to -4s) in my market.

As I said their are IMO 4 different Markets out there...... your #S are I think national auctions.......looks like you posted before my added edits.

I would not sell that gun for a penny under $1200 to anybody for any reason. That is just my personal opinion and do NOT sell any of my guns so take it for what it is worth. I would not sell that model 19 neither but if I had to would stay firm at the $1200.

I agree with the others who say at least $1100-1200. Can't tell from the pics, does it have target hammer and trigger?

I gave $800 for a 19-3, 3-T with original box, 5 years ago, and my gun is as nice as the one you show.

As a fellow Californian I can tell you two things:
1. Any pre-lock Model 19 in California is scarce, in demand and doesn't last long in an LGS or on a table at a gun show. Any of the P&R variations bring an extra premium.
2. No Dash Model 19's are especially scarce here. The Diamond Target Stocks are a big plus. $1200 is not at all out of line.

"Looks like I should reevaluate my 4" and 2 1/2" in the same or better condition than the OPs."

You have 2 four-screw 19's with diamond target grips? You da man.

As others here have hinted at......do you really want to sell it? Just because your acquaintance really wants to buy it may not be a good enough reason to sell it. That 19 you have there is a real looker, and will be very hard to replace.
At the right gun show, or probably right here on the forum, I see it easily selling for north of a grand.

I would not sell it unless there is some odd pressing need to do so. You are very unlikely to replace it. It is a useful and flexible platform. I have a later M66 4" that has had some stuff done at the factory, including replacing the front sight with a gold bead and Master action job, plus been round butted by BMCM. It is a really useful piece of equipment that is usually loaded with .38 SWC, but can be loaded with Magnums if I see a need. As a fighting revolver, it is of significant value.

Couple years ago, on this very forum, I bought a minty pre M19 Combat Magnum 1st year for $1,250 shipped. I already had a Model 19-0 that I bought new in the box for $1,150 at the Big Reno Show. Glad to see my investments will pay off if I ever decide to sell, which I doubt will ever happen. The Pre M19 is one of my favorite revolvers. Big Larry

That is a fine looking revolver! Lately I have been following auctions on the website and I have been seeing some crazy bidding going on for really nice stuff. I would not sell that, but I think 1200 would be the family price, because I bet you could get 1400 for that with no problem
