My 14ND is SN: K342910. I paid $670 as a reference.
That serial number could be on a gun shipped in either 1959 or 1960. Here are couple of comparables:
K375657 Model 17 K-22 Masterpiece – shipped December 1959.
K376764 Model 14 K-38 Masterpiece – shipped February 1960.
$400 is a very good price unless the gun shows a ton of wear, in which case it is still an acceptable price.
You are the one who is mistaken. A K-38 Masterpiece with a K prefix, five-digit serial number would not be a Model 14 at all. K37000 points to a revolver from 1948, a decade before model numbers appeared. In addition, the serial number is not complete without the K prefix.
My 4-screw 14 ND S/N is K351929...No letter yet, but Roy advises it shipped March 1959...

As you can see it has some wear around the muzzle otherwise it's good. I'm satisfied with that price, assuming it shoots well. I know serial numbers don't reflect when they left the factory.
I'm lucky enough to have two no-dash Model 14s. One is a 6" & the other is 8-3/8". I've never shot either one despite having them for almost 20 years now. Sad.

I made it to the range today. As expected this is a shooter. I like all my K frame smiths (10-8 4", 14nd 6", 14-3 4" and 6", 15-3 4", 17-3 6", 19-4 6")
I have K313132. It's a pre-model # 4-screw. I don't remember if I got a date on it or not. I think it's the only pre-# 4-screw I've got.
According to the good book, it's from mid 1957, the year model numbers became a thing. It's gotta be at the very tail end of NMN's.
I inherited it from an uncle who carried it as a reserve police officer in the late '60s in Ohio. No clue where or when he got it.

Pabicyclist,now that you've shot it you really understand what you've got.My 14 is the best revolver that I own and I have a few.Good for you and enjoy it.

I understood before I got this no dash. I have 3 other 14's, all -3's. a 4' a 6" and a 6" single action only.
plus a 15-3 and a 10-8 4". Can you have too many Smith revolvers?
