Welcome to the board samj! I'm afraid you've posted in the wrong area for a response though. If you will move it or re-post it in the section specifying revolvers made 1961-1980 someone will be glad to help you.

If it "looks to be stainless" it's either nickel (original or not), or some sort of non-S&W finish like hard chrome.

It's not possible to give you one number re: value without some quality pictures. It could be a $700 gun or a $1500 one, or anything in between. Collectors want original guns, but there are plenty of people looking for a nice shooter in this configuration.

Also, it's not an antique gun, that section is for guns made before 1899.

Welcome aboard!

Your 4 screw no dash 27 sounds interesting. I am far from being one of the local experts, but I am certain that your gun is not stainless, but likely nickel plated. Depending on the mechanical function, condition of the nickel finish, if it has the original grips and box, etc., your example could be worth more than $2000.

Definitely. I'm assuming (risky!) that this is a fired gun w/o box, tools, and papers so figured the top was $1500. But it'll have lots of value no matter what. Who doesn't want a 3.5" 27 four screw in their safe?

Now we just need the OP to come back with some pictures...

1. I have a Model 27 serial S 199543. Lettered 5/19/60.

2. Nobody can make even a wild guess at value based on the scant info provided and no photo. Good news is the 3.5" barrel is the most popular and brings the most money on the used market.

3. Cannot be stainless. Nickel was available (the one I mentioned above is in nickel) but it should be shiny while stainless is dull. Maybe you have a nickel plated revolver that needs polishing. Also possible (but I pray not) that the gun has been refinished is an industrial coating like hard chrome. I consider such a thing to be an abomination on a good gun.

Need photos for a decent evaluation.
