Value of 357 Magnum

Do you have anything else with it, box, etc.? It dates to 1955 with that SN and looks in excellent condition. SCSW gives ANIB value at $2700, EXC at $1500 (2016 pricing). Nickel brings a premium. Given what I've see a few numbered model 27 guns go for lately, I'd put the value of this one north of $2K.

No box. It is in very nice condition, the scratches on the b ottom of the grips notwithstanding.

I'll go with the $1500-$2000 estimates. I'd expect to see it for sale where I shop in that range. Very nice, don't see them in nickel too often.

For insurance purposes, I would think not less than $2000. Just try to find a replacement in like condition!!

Here is one, a little nicer with the box and stuff, but blued. I am seeing very few of these on closed auctions. This one brought $2500.

Overall, I think the $2000 plus is a good number, Thanks

That gun was bought by a dealer we all know, so he plans on getting way more than 2500 out of that package, and it's worth it. That dealer killed interest in the auction with the high starting bid, the "AS-IS" sale, by hype calling the 5" "Rare", and by not cleaning the smudges off the gun leaving lookers wondering if the gun would clean up. DUMB!!!! In today's market, I would not be shocked if that package brought $4000 or more IF it wiped down clean. ;)

Nickel Pre 27s are rare. The 6-1/2" is not common. If I understand you, the grips are not original (but they sure fit like it!), so put some grips on it with no initials and call it a $3000 gun. Maybe more, cause I'm not lookin at it in hand. ;)

Another 1955

That's a sweet revolver! Here's its cousin, my 1955 .357 Magnum...blued 6-1/2" with original stocks, s/n S140334. I picked this one up at a local gun store about 10 years ago for $545 (pics taken prior to wipe down and RenWax). I have it valued in my records today at ~$1500, so I expect that your minty nickel version is easily $2K+. Enjoy!

Value to purchase and value to replace are different to me.

Confirming a good deal here with a "what's it worth" post makes sense, as does the "I'm about to buy... is this a good price?"

As it relates to insurance I see that as a totally different topic because I am looking at two things, first, to recoup what I paid, and secondly, possibly replacing a very hard to find, unique item. I have a few items in my collection that I doubt I could ever replace if I lost them. If I would be lucky enough to find a replacement I know the price will be astronomical.
