I thought I would share my latest find. It's taken me a very long time to find this one at a price that didn't make me cringe. According to Mr. Charles Pate's book, they only made 800-1300 of these during WWII with a 2" barrel. This one is in the V600k serial range. P proofed with ordnance bomb on butt of gun. Looks unfired. Thanks to Ken S. for giving me the heads up on this one for sale (on the Cabela's website of all places)! I pictured it with a few other WWII snub nose military revolves including a 2" Colt Commando and 2" Colt Detective Special.

That is really a rare bird. Glad ya found it.

Victorylarry, Congrats, if it's real! As you know, there are more fakes around than factory original 2 in. Victories. I hope it letters!

Is that what a fresh "black magic" finish looks like, or is it just a rough blue job? Never seen a preserved example in the flesh.

Now that's my kind of guns. I'm assuming the Detective Special is martially marked. Thanks for sharing those.

Nice find, Larry.

Do the stocks match the serial on the butt?

Would you mind posting the complete serial number, or emailing it to me, so that we can include it in the Victory Database? Thanks.

This DS is martial marked (flaming bomb on top left of frame). The Colt DS came in a brushed blue and not the parkerizing you see in the picture. At the outbreak of WWII colt was making the DS in round butt only (square butt DS's had been discontinued) and the army ordered these with square butt and blue finish. The parkerizing was done probably sometime after the war (not sure if military parkerized but it does look that way in my opinion). Anway, its a fun area of WWII collecting, in which there are some sleepers still around.

Is that number too late to have been one of the 500 OSS guns? I believe those were sent in 1942.

Hi Larry:

Thanks for emailing me the complete serial on your gun for inclusion in the Database on a confidential basis.

I have replied to your email with comments on four other 2" Victories in your serial number range, which bodes well for the authenticity of your gun.

Can you guys suggest a book or something to help a novice learn more about all these old Victory models?

Thanks,

Theodoric
