I went to the Tulsa Gun Show yesterday and I still can't get over how huge this show is. I was on the floor from 10AM until 5:30 PM and I covered everything but near the end I was just walking up to each dealer and looking for the two guns I wanted and if they weren't on the table I quickly moved on.

On most guns the dealers were close to the current market prices on their guns except for a few that were asking very high prices and they always are. Those dealers have high end guns in excellent condition and they are asking premium prices for them.

An example on dealer had a 17-4 22LR with a 6 inch barrel in excellent condition and he was asking $750 and I bought the same gun in the same condition for $550 at the Springdale show a month ago. He also wouldn't budge of the price and said he would get it and he probably did because 22 revolvers in excellent condition are hot right now.

There were lots of dealers selling ammo and reloading supplies and most of them had decent prices. Gunpowder was selling for $26 a can 6 months ago and one dealer had it for $19 yesterday which is a great price. On ammo you get anything you wanted and the prices were lower then a few months.

My quest for the two guns I was looking for went OK. I found and bought the 29-2 with 8 3/8 inch barrel that I was looking for. The revolver is a solid 99% gun that looks unfired and is pristine. The 29-2 was made in 1976 based on the serial number. I didn't see a 27-2 with 6.5 inch barrel at any dealer’s tables. I did see a Pre 27 with 6.5 inch barrel but if had quite a bit of holster wear (about a (93% gun) and he wanted $1500 so I passed.

I was about to leave the show and a dealer pulled out a Model 18-3 22 caliber revolver with 4 inch barrel he had under the table. The gun had the box numbered to the gun and the paper work in the box. The gun has been shot very little and is a (98% gun) so I dickered with him and I ended up buying it at the high end of the market but the box accessories sealed the deal. He was trying to pass it off as unfired but after cleaning it today it's had a small amount of ammo through it. I was made in 1969 based on the serial number. I plan on it being a shooter so it's going to get more wear on it in the near future.

I was completely worn out at the end of the day which made the 3 hour drive home a killer. Thankfully I had a couple friends with me to talk to on the way home which really helped.

Great pair Art! I would have been hard pressed to pass on the model 18.
Been looking for a long time and haven't even seen one.

I too spent the day at a show yesterday ,and it but wore me out.

Great pictures as usual.

Regards , Allen

Nice pick ups. I know what you mean about a long drive after a full of anything. I am looking forward to the day when teleportation is possible. Wouldn't it be nice, after a long day away from home, to just think about home and be back there imediately? Smiley face here!

Fyimo it looks like you did very well on your purchases, I used to make that show every time, what I remember was the double wide kid strollers clogging the aisles. Jeff

+1 on what Neill said!! Spectacular Kurac's- what kind of wood is that??
You had a great day, fyiom!
Regards,
Tom

The grips are made of Coco Bolo and they have the shape of cokes with a slightly larger palm swell.

:) I have been waiting on your gun show report. Looks like you did real good and I bet you all had a great time. I sure would like to go to a show like that on day. I pulled it up on the internet and saw that it was in a 12 acre building with heat and air. "WOW" As always you came home with a pair of really nice guns. Don

Nice pair!, this is one of the few places you can make comments like that without getting in trouble.

It looks like the 29-2 came with the standard fruit crate wood of that era, I have a few like that myself.

I am in total lust on the Kurak grips, the shape is the thing I first noticed. There is some beautiful grain also. Would you be interested in mailing the grips around so some of us could try them? :-) Two very nice looking Smith's. I've done Tulsa, it's a wild ride.

Just happened to notice that you have your Model 29 labeled as a Model 28. Thought you might want to know. Great pics.

Thanks, I just changed the image. I hate when I fat finger my typing.

Art,

Very nice duo you brought home. I do love that Model 18. Thanks for the great pictures,

Jerry

Nice revo's Art!

I too went in search of an 8 &3/8th's Mod 29-2 last year and found one in nickel.
As you know there not all that common but are easier to find in high-grade condition than the shorter ones.

Anything 22 cal is hot now and your lucky to find a Mod 18 at all.

With the exception of your wallet and feet taking a beating, looks like a great day!

GF

Just wondering... how do you live out of state and take handguns home with you?

I was about to ask the same question. I would go the Tulsa show but I've been told I can't buy a handgun there.
I did live there for about 10yrs and graduated from Will Rogers High School in 1955.

Damn you fyimo, I sent my dealer up there all the way from south Texas to get me an 18, and you probably found it right before he got there! :>)

I hope he found another for me...

Great purchase! Congrats.
