Favorite grips for double action shooting

I like wood for lookin', but for shootin' I prefer the plain old Hogue monogrip that comes with the gun nowadays.
Especially with a powerful caliber. That tacky rubber is easy to hang on to and easy on the hand as well. Not very sexy, but it works.

JMHO, but I never have been able to find a set of "working grips" that worked better for me than the smooth combats with finger grooves that were popular in the late '80s through the '90s. Most of my serious shooting is with K-frames and those grips on that frame in my hand add up to "a match made in Heaven." ;) YMMV

I kinda like these "PC targets" me ownself.

when i went through the police academy, many moons ago, the day i had to qualify, it was pouring rain. we shot the model 64 with the stock magnas.

the pistol was so wet, it was jumping out of my hands. kinda like "shooting" watermelon seeds between your thumb and first finger.

that experience sold me on goodyears for police work!

I really like magna greshorn stags on my 57 and on the 29. Just fits my hand and grip seems good. I was surprised. Tried 2 different wood target styles and both left me bleedin.

Some Herrett's "Osage Orange" that I took wood rasps, sandpaper to and refinished are my favorites for double action shooting on this 19-3.

I like Pachmayr Presentation. small size, grips. they fit my hand very well and provide a firm, comfortable grip.

Very big hands: Pachmayr Presentation
Medium /slightly big hands: Pachmayr Gripper
Smallish hands: Pachmayr Gripper Professional

Hogue Monogrip

I just recently added the Hogue Monogrips to my 13-1. Shot it at the range the other day and they felt very good in hand and controllable. I could never get used to the skinny stock grips.

Will probably get for my 15-3 as well.

Ahrend's Retro Target or Retro Combat, these work for my not so large hands. Have you guy's seen a picture of Bill Jordan's hands....his were pretty darn large. I tried Jordan Troopers but they was too large for me. Ideal grips are so subjective.
I do have a set of Pachmayr Gripper Professional's , they came on a K frame model 64 ,and they fit and I like them BUT they ugly, fined grained wood is just so lovely.
The Ahrend's fit and are lovely also.

When I carried a revolver for duty use I used Pachmayrs. The target grips were a bitbig for my short fingers. The Magna grips were too small and grip adapters just didn't feel right for me. The Pachmayrs or a set of Safariland (Rodgers) grips felt perfect for the K/L frame revolvers I carried. Even now that I have to carry a Beretta 92FS on duty when I carry a revolver off duty the Pachmayrs are usually on my carry gun.

I heard that!

I'm going to risk being "shunned" on this one, and suggest you try a set of Pachmayr Gripper Professionals for your actual K frame DA shooting sessions (Then hide them when you get home.) I used them for many years on a Model 66 duty revolver that I don't recall EVER firing single action (that was a big no-no), and found them to be perfect for rapid/timed DA shooting... but of course they are totally inappropriate for barbecues, funerals, weddings, and other social events.
That's funny. I do pretty much the same thing with my 65. There ain't nobody around out here to see the grippers so I leave them on. I have to agree that they are comfortable for DA shooting with my hands the size that they are. Now if I could just shoot with a little more skill:rolleyes:
Peace,
gordon

I used to use finger-groove style checkered synthetic grips made by Safariland, but they're out of production. For my DA Smiths I like the Hogue Monogrip for my medium-sized hand. I don't like grips that cover the back-strap like the Pachmyers as they are too big.
