Favorite grips for double action shooting

What grips do you like for shooting K frames in double action?

I think I could shoot my model 19 better in double action if I swapped out my target grips.

I prefer target grips for double action shooting with my K frame. I've tried magnas and Ahrends on it, but I like targets the best.

My hands are big enough that my middle finger almost touches the meat at the base of my thumb with target grips--there is maybe a millimeter gap.

Everybody likes something different, I guess just try some different kinds and see what you like best.

I'm going to risk being "shunned" on this one, and suggest you try a set of Pachmayr Gripper Professionals for your actual K frame DA shooting sessions (Then hide them when you get home.) I used them for many years on a Model 66 duty revolver that I don't recall EVER firing single action (that was a big no-no), and found them to be perfect for rapid/timed DA shooting... but of course they are totally inappropriate for barbecues, funerals, weddings, and other social events.

Yes. Pachmayrs are excellent for DA shooting. Used them a lot for PPC. My duty revolvers all had Pachmayr Presentation stocks.

Hogue Monogrip for target shooting.

Pachmayr Decelerator for shooting magnum loads. they have the rubber back strap cover.

I prefer the Hogue monogrip black rubber also. I have them on all my S&W shooting revolvers (K,L & N frames), even the .44 Magnums. Although, I have to say that I never shoot real magnum loads. I use the .44s for bowling pin matches and my load is a Hornady 200 gr. JHP with 10 grains of Unique. It gives about 1000fps and takes those pins right off the table.

Depends on your hand size. For me, the Pach Presentations recommended and illustrated by OIF2 are absolutely the best for SA. I seem to recall that they are good for DA, also, but since they are on my K22, I don't remember for sure. For my hand, the best DA grips for a square-butt K are the Safariland/Rogers plastic grips. Magnas and a Tyler are a fairly distant second or third.

You really have to try them out, but the above may be a good starting point. You certainly shouldn't rule out the Hogues, either.

Depends on the caliber, but Pach or Hogue finger groove are more comfortable.

I've tried everything from Fuzzy Farrants, Ropers, Heretts, Sandersons, Keith Browns and all factory types I am sorry to say that those ugly rubber ones or a S&W factory magna grip with a grip adapter work best for me.

Pachmayr Presentations on my Model 10. Saved the magnas that came with it, but tried the Presentations after over twelve years of carrying my 640 EDC with Pachmayr Compacs. They aren't pretty on either gun, but they work for me.

My preference is the Fuzzy Farrants. Not only makes it easier on the hand,it also seems like it makes it easier on the wrist as well. My second choice would be the magnas.

Spegel extended Boot Grip for guns w/ 4-6 inch barrels.........and

regular Boot grips for 3 inch guns.....

Chopped to bottom of the frame S&W "banana"/ targets for 2 1/2 inch.

Grips

Been carrying and shooting DA Smiths for 4 decades now....and I have tried all types, shapes and sizes.....when I shoot a magnum with magnum loads in rapid DA, I will not tolerate the gun shifting in my grip, I have big hands and I can clamp down onto something pretty hard, but I have always had issues with grips shifting during rapid DA with magnum loads, particularly with the 2.5", 3" or 4" bl's.....several years I settled on the Houge synthetic finger groove tapered grip that has the "pebbled" surface, such as WardenRoss has on his trusty mod 19 in post #6.....Every "shooter" and all of my carry DA's wear these grips now....."Best of Breed" for heavy recoiling DA shooting in my book.

I pretty much have tried them all and, strange as it seems,and much to my own surprise, I have settled on Herrett Shooting Stars, either smooth or with the skip line checkering.
The difference seems to be that these fill more of the space behind the trigger guard, minimizing knuckle rapping and allowing for a higher hold on the backstrap.
