I put me a like new (good 90-95% condition) on lay a way. Total price after tax is $400. The serial number is 8152xx. Can anyone tell me if I got a decent deal on it and when it was manufactured as the closest I've came is late 60's to 1970 from what I'm finding online. I have no Smith & Wesson book right now and I don't know much about the gun other then what I've found online as this will be my very first Smith & Wesson and also will be my first revolver. I'm including a couple pictures of it that I took with my cell phone. I believe it has the 2" barrel by looks of it but I haven't measured it to make sure. If anyone can tell from the picture, I'd appreciate the input on that as well.

It looks to have a 2" barrel, and you got it at a good price. I don't have the SN table handy but you are in the correct year range for shipment; this must have been one of the last guns without a letter prefix, which I think would have been an H. Enjoy!

SCSW shows 1969 s/n 786544 for early j-fames, and 1969-70 for the start of the H series s/n's for the models 30,31, & 32. So I'd guess 1969 for 8152xx. Like murphydog said, one of the last ones before the H-series s/n's kicked in.

According to Smith & Wesson's own historian (after emailing their customer service I was able to get his email address) the ship date on my gun was August 1968.
