I am very interested in learning more about SW revolvers. I see a lot of different models discussed in the forums. Is there a list showing all revolver models/caliber/capacity/barrel length availabilities? That sort of thing.

For example:
Model 10. Steel K frame. .38spl. Six rounds.
Model 12. K frame. Alloy frame, steel cylinder. 38 Spl Six rounds.

My interest in in .38s but I'd like to be able know what is being discussed when someone says they just picked up a M13 or M25 or whatever.

Thanks!

I'd say good luck with that but for the Internet!

There is a reference book called the Standard Catalog of Smith & Wesson, many of us have a copy, and that's about as comprehensive a "list" as you can find. But the Internet does have sources:

This will help you some, if you want to meander through the website:

Revolvers - Smith & Wesson

These will help you, too:

Smith & Wesson - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

List of revolvers - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Category:Smith & Wesson revolvers - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Those should be useful for you!!!!

Great! Thank you!

Hi, welcome to the forum. I am relatively new to thje forum and really read and listen to the members; met two that havehelped me out quite a bit. Many people told me to buy the Smith & Wesson catalog; I could agree more so I did.

It is titled "Standard Catalog of Smith & Wesson," 3rd edition. It is great & it hasn't left my side since Christmas.

Standard Catalog of Smith & Wesson by Jim Supica | 9780896892934 | Hardcover | Barnes & Noble

I linked it from B&N but you can buy elsewhere.

Good Luck

Jack

There is a string in the auto-pistol sub-forum about the 3rd generation pistol models, with a pretty comprehensive chart.

This flyer was published by S&W around 1960 and has been a good reference for me since I focus S&Ws from the 50s and 60s.

In the past few weeks I bought the Standard catalog of Smith & Wesson 2nd and 3rd editions for less than $20 each on ebay. Well worth the price and very helpful to unlock the mystery of S&W.

As noted the Standard Catalog of Smith & Wesson 3rd Edition is the best book to get. I started with the 2nd Edition years ago and picked up the other two along the way. The 3rd Edition is available as an iBook through Apple or through Amazon's Kindle. I have it on my phone so I can use it at gun shows or shops.

Finally got to the range yesterday afternoon and fired off 100 rounds or so with not even the slightest hiccup and really liked this gun. I was shooting at 50" and It was very accurate, better than my old eyes.I think I found one of my new favorites. Thanks, Bob

Standard Catalog of Smith & Wesson, Third Edition, is a good start.
