3rd edition of Standard Catalog of S&W says: "Introduced May 1980, originally ordered for NYSP but never delivered. Only N frame .357 magnum without target sights. N serial number range N557750-N560860 with 3,000 mfg in 1980. Usually found in ANIB condition." It also describes various characteristics of hammer/trigger/grips. Great book - highly recommended.

How do you think I would find a value for it especially since it has been fired?

Good question. It doesn't have the original grips or finish, but it IS a somewhat uncommon firearm. I wish I knew more about them but there's a wealth of knowledge here. Anyone else want to give it a whirl?

Hmm I'm not an FFL, but knowing that the unfired NIB guns typically go for around $1k or a little more, you probably have a $650-$700 pistol there.

I can't tell what's up with the finish from those photos.

Welcome! It appears to be a model 520 from 1980 (there was a second S & W model 520 from 2005, a different type of .357). If it does not have its original blue finish, it is definitely not in the collectible category and is probably worth $4-500. Since these were produced but never issued to the NYSP, the vast majority of existing examples are new or nearly so and run in the $900-1100 range. Hope this is helpful.

Instant collector item. Everyone knew they were somewhat limited in production (3K) and most are found unfired as they were purchased as collectibles. This one was used so value would be as a shooter. Aren't so many shooter 520s that's it's easy to pin a value. I'd give $500 for one but I don't know if anyone would sell at that price.

The issue appears to be the finish. Without better photos, it's hard to see what you actually have - $400-$500 mebbe.

The finish doesn't look too bad, just looks like it's been shot and enjoyed. I would agree it probably falls in the $500-$700 range, and there are some folks who would probably pay a couple hundred more just because it is what it is and these come up seldom. Good luck!

Your revolver appears to have an aftermarket Parkerized (Sp) finish, that appear to be showing signs of rust on the barrel, sight rib, and front sight. Along with the cost effective rubber grips any collectors’ value is gone. It’s a utilitarian revolver that would make a good truck gun, or something just to knock around with. I’m thinking it would be a $350.00 - $400.00 revolver at best.

Thank you all for your input. I really appreciate it. Basically, from what I have gathered, it's worth what someone will pay for it.
