Default smith and wesson 500 magnum

The serial number of my 500 magnum is: CTZ8072. Can anyone tell me when the pistol was manufactured? Thank you, JWG

Do you have your box?

The date on the fired casing will be close.

The end label on the box has a 4 digit number on it. Usually under the heading Spec Ord. That is usually the date of manufacture. The first digit is the year and the next three are the Julian date.

It's actually a revolver and not a pistol.

A revolver IS a "pistol" per the actual Merriam Webster definition.
A revolver is a SUB grouping of the general grouping known at "PISTOL"

In my experience "Pistol" was synonymous with "handgun" with a whole host of subspecies: revolvers, semis, autos, caplocks, boarding, boot, Derringer, under-hammer, flintlock, etc. I've owned examples of most of these subspecies so I am sure there are many more variations. The "pistol" designation has also been applied to human varieties. Sorry to butt in...

NICE! Jump on the new guy, that will make him feel right at home. Just semantics, not even a safety or function issue. In my opinion and my world, pistol, handgun, are interchangeable.

People are corrected all the time when they refer to a semi automatics magazine as a clip. Does that upset you as well? I think the OP will be fine, he is shooting a .500 magnum after all.

It does upset me, we know what they mean. No need to correct them on semantics or spelling or any other such nonsense. (especially on their very first post!) I have found that lots of people have to point out other peoples mistakes and flaws in order to feel better about themselves. .

I agree he didn't need me to stick up for him, shooting a .500 magnum I am sure he can take care of himself.

I'll get off my soap box now I don't really like the view from up here anyway.

Hope you have a nice weekend. Ed.

Just so you know, I wasn't trying to play a game of gotcha with the op. But if the op had stated that he owned a .50 pistol, we would assume he meant a Desert Eagle or AMT and not a S&W .500 magnum. That's all I meant by my correction.

Those are two different animals, for sure. I know from your other posts, you aren't out to make others look bad. Enjoy your weekend. Ed.
