It looks like I have the ability to choose between either. Both likely 99% and with original box. One difference is that the 18-4 has TT and TH whereas the 18-3 are standard. And an age difference of eight or nine years. Price practically identical, full book value.

Which would you choose where you in the market for this Combat Masterpiece?

Without any question (or hesitation), I would buy both! :D

Depends on what configuration I needed more. Do you need one with TH and TT, or is the standard a better option on a 4" 22 for you?

I don't know about paying "full book value" though. Premiums are for the rich or impatient.

Hi Eric,

Other than saying that TTSH may have the correct answer to your query after all; is the Model 18-4 a pre '82 version?

I will say that my Model 18-3 has the Target Hammer and Trigger, and I REALLY LIKE them!

Best of luck with your decision. I wish I were in your shoes right now! :)

Dave - Yes, the dash 4 is a '78. While bluing on both is 99% I think I noticed the slightly richer color in the dash 3. But it's splitting hairs. Heck, I may go with the 18-4 because I like the looks of it's darker stocks.

But, don't have either yet. I surely post if I do get one of them.

The good news is that there is no bad news; you can't make a bad decision. Either, or both, is the right answer. Only issue I would have is the price. Not sure what "full book value" means but if it is much more than $800 I might keep looking for awhile. Unless you've got to have a 99% one, nice ones without box/papers can still be had in the $500-$600 range where I shop. Good luck.

Well, my 18-4 has the target hammer and trigger, which I really like. I didn't buy it because of them, but it didn't hurt either. It also has dark presentation stocks on it now, but it didn't come with them, I put them on later. It had Magna's when I got it.

I just recently picked up another one that doesn't have the TH,TT, but it's a 1953, 5 screw. I'm a sucker for diamond grips.

Personally I like the TH,TT all other things being equal.

I went and picked up the 18-4. It really is ANIB. Not only the papers but the original receipt. Not counting the LGS I'm the second owner. My goodness I can point this one steady. I swear it feels better in my hands than my K22. Nine cash.
