S&W Model 36 Markings

Recently a buddy came across a S&W model 36, square butt with the following markings: Ser # J537XXX, also stamped on right grip panel.

Stamped on grip frame, lower left side; 41546, G19 & G6

Stamped on grip frame, lower right side V in a circle and X in a triangle (points rounded)

41546 also stamped inside side plate with G 19 below.

41546 also stamped on yoke.

I'm pretty sure that the number 41546 is a parts number to identify the fitted parts, i.e. frame, yoke and side plate, but the other markings have me stumped. Here are some photos:

These are all just assembly numbers stamped onto the frame during the manufacturing process.

The 5 digit # is the assembly #:

ASSEMBLY (factory work) #s: These multi-digit numbers of 3 to 5 digits, are on the yoke at the hinge, in the ‘yoke cut’ of the frame opposite the yoke near the hinge (usually accompanied with the inspector’s letter or # code stamp of approval, but not always), and inside of the sideplate, for the pre war and early post war period thru ~early 1958.

After the 6/22/1957 change order, Model #s were assigned and eventually stamped on the frame in the yoke cut. The serial # was soon after added in the ‘yoke cut’ as well and the assembly # moved to the left side of the grip frame parallel to the butt. More currently beginning in the 1980’s we see non-matching multi-digit numbers parallel to the butt left or right side, and inside the side plate. Once the gun is shipped, the only use for the assembly # is to confirm the three parts it's stamped on, are original to the gun. These are still in use to this day.

All the other markings are codes to identify who inspected the gun.

Just purchased this Model 36 today, built in 76 or 77. Thought I'd share these markings.

41914 is a palindrome: reads the same frontwards and backwards. Does it match the assembly # in the yoke?
