Due to sickness in the family pictures are imposable. I have a model 36 with a pinned barrel and checkered grips the pistol is about 95% with just a hint of a turn ring. The serial number is 346083, can someone please tell me when this little cutie was made

Welcome to the Forum! Sorry to hear about your family illness. I'm sure that some of our Forum members that have extensive knowledge of Model 36s will be along shortly to chime in. The "SCSW 5th Ed." shows that Model 36s (and the ".38 Chiefs Special") were manufactured from 1950-1969, with s/n's ranging from 1- 786544. S&W began giving their revolvers model numbers in 1957, and that's when the ".38 Chiefs Special" became the "Model 36". Although not accurate, I guesstimate that your Model 36 (s/n 346083) would have been manufactured around 1960.

1962 ended with 295,000. They were making quite a few J frames at the time (averaging over 70,000 a year) , so i think a good guess would be your 36 was made in 1963. Best wishes and let us know if there's anything else you need.

Bob is our Chiefs Special expert here on the Forum. If you follow the link that he posted above (Post #2) you will see his reply to this same question about the same gun. His post there (#4) follows mine (#3). Both suggest a September 1964 ship date for this revolver. When Bob has spoken, there is little reason to speculate beyond his information.
