I realize that these need to be bought and sold in your own state, and some feel that because of that, or for other reasons, that they are worthless. But, for you folks that like and appreciate them, what value would you place on a pair with and without medallions. Thanks for any information. Also, we all like pictures if you want to show off your Ivory Magna grips.

Well, I don't feel they're worthless. My view is that they are more valuable than before because they are less easily acquired. Ball park, I'd say, for ivory magnas with medallions, $600, and maybe $100 less for non medallioned. Carved would be higher. The quality of the work is important.

Above is my opinion.

Re state lines, maybe transact in Las Vegas. ("What happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas" and all that.)

Maybe I'll come back and post a pic or two later.

IVORY

Values vary but I sold a set of full stocks some years back ;) for A grand and worth every penny. They were on a Colt Python. Forgive me, but all this PC **** I could care less about at my age. Anything I might, or might not have was legal when acquired and is no ones business but my own. I know no one, and I mean no one who keeps receipts for 30/40 years. And dont try are take my piano  JTWIS

I picked up this Colt SAA Sheriff's Model near two years
ago at the local Cabela's.
They are plumb weird when it comes to handling a gun
to check for for timing, lock-up etc....

I asked about the grips...."Some kind of white material".
When I got my hands on it I knew it was ivory.
It did not go back in the showcase.
Nicely fitted lightly grained ivory.

I think the $1000.00 tag on ivory is now accurate.

I heard it might be legal under federal law to sell across state lines if the ivory is a small part of a whole item. BUT DO NOT ASSUME THIS IS CORRECT.

In some states all transfer of ivory is illegal - Even mammoth ivory.

Tis a shame, our current state of affairs, because ivory sure makes some nice grips and knife scales.

I only have one set. They are on a 58 Remington New Navy cartridge conversion. No chips or cracks, but the yellowed, weathered look tells me they were either original or at least period. They were $300 at an estate auction, and came with a revolver attached.:D

I’d sure love to have several sets for various guns, and some blanks for knife handles.

Larry,

Post some photos and we can nail down a better value. I have seen similar sets (magna or service style) sell from 500-1000 between fellow collectors.

There are some bonded sets that look nearly identical to the real deal, so you have to watch out.

Take care.

A well known ffl dealer that specializes in grips paid me $1000 for Colt Bisley ivories about a year ago. National Gun Day gun show.

Here is my Triple Lock (nicely, but not perfectly, refinished, 44 Special) with the plain ivories it came with. To be honest, I like good stags better but for now I'm keeping these on the gun they came to me on.

I'm in SC. Please PM pics and a price if you're interested in selling them. I've got ivories on three of my guns and love the look and feel. I should've bought more before the feds put the kibosh on selling across state lines.

I'm not quite sure the price differential noted for (with and without) medallions is warranted------especially since it seems likely we're not really talking about medallions, but who might have made the grips. This might help clear things up-----from a February 14, 2017 letter on a .44 Hand Ejector First Model (sporting ivory grips). "Smith & Wesson did not offer ivory grips for their N frame revolvers. The ivory grips were generally added by the distributor or dealer to fill a special order."

Of course each to their own certainly applies here, and God will probably still love you if you want to pay big bucks for a pair of medallions.
