Ooooooh, and you appear to have the correct velour lined case for the first year 57 too! Harder to find than the first year guns. Finally found one for mine at the Symposium (thank you Doc44). Appears you need a -1 and a -2 as well. Very nice.

I’ve never really had a collecting interest in the non P&R model 57s. The UDR guns are scarce and collectible so I welcomed this one into the fold.

I'm sorry, but what the hell does UDR gun mean/stand for?

Very nice collection...

Amazing the difference in the light reflection between the 1964 and the later no-...Until one has a 60s and a 70s vintage gun side by side, one doesn't appreciate the extra care that went in the the pre-BP guns.

First is the granddad, a first year 1964 model 57 , next a later no dash and finally a 657 UDR. They are all keepers.

Very nice trio

That first year is beautiful

I changed the grips on my UDRs

I think the older Factory Combats look and feel better than the Altomnte grips the factory initially used for these firearms. The later runs of UDRs came with rubber Hogues

I don't care to look for post 1981 guns at all. S&W made a P&R UDR gun long before that one, the M58. Not first year, but both "S" prefix, 1967 (M58) and 1968 (M57).

I agree!

Here is a unique one.

Started life as a Model 27.

It was in fairly rough shape finish wise. My friend, who is a member here, had the barrel rebored to .41 Mag. New cylinder was fitted, and barrel shank cut back. Cut to (in my mind) a perfect 5"s.

As far as I am concerned it is an example of the perfect "Mountain Gun".

He sent it to me, for an ammo project I was working on. Probably should start a separate thread for this gun, so as not to distract from the OP's fine guns!
