In the late 1970’s S&W standardized barrel lengths, getting rid of the 6.5” for the 6”. Your barrel length is the to be expected length for that time period. If I remember correctly, there is only one (1) known 6” barreled S serial numbered guns. But lots of N serial guns from late 70’s to early 80’s.
