Polished nickel 27-2?
What’s my best bet to polish the Nickel to as good as it’ll get?
I won this one in GB the other day.
Seemed like a good deal.
Just a moment...
I’m going to change out the sight for a ramp.
Thanks.

I really think it would be a mistake to replace that front sight, at least until you find out if it shipped that way... ...Ben

Flitz polish is used by many members. Very fine abrasive in a tube. Do it by hand and it doesn't take much work. Follow up with Renaissance wax.

Another vote for Flitz and NOT changing out the sight. Those McGivern sights are Way Cool!!!

Agreed with all the comments. Love the McGivern front sight.
Also, you did great on that gun. Great price!

I see the telltale mark of the front sight pin peeking out the left side of the base, so my guess is it was later switched out. I have a 1977 or so made 27-2 in nickel and it carries the Patridge type front sight. I finagled a face of black epoxy on the sight, it's been there for about 30 years.
Much as I like gold bead front sights, not too keen on a target revolver but I suppose that depends on what one is using for a target. Paper, not so much. Anything else - would be just right.

Flitz, Semi-Chrome Paste or Mother's Mag and Aluminum Wheel Polish. Use a soft, cotton cloth, finger pressure only and go slowly.

Flitz or Wenol in the blue tube will work nicely. Regarding the front sight blade, I think it may have been a plain Patridge blade that was changed to a McGivern blade. If you want a Baughman ramp or red ramp, I don't see any harm in changing it.

Excellent score! I too have had good results with Flitz very gently, followed by Renaissance.
I also vote for keeping the sight, but honestly that's just me. If it's your gun, you should set it up how you like.

I've never used Flitz as a polish, only as a cleaner...I buy it in 2 pound cans...I prefer Simichrome as a polish on all finishes, and follow up with RenWax... ...Ben

Simichrome, Wenol, Flitz, Renaissance - all of those have varying amounts of polish in them. Pure carnauba wax does not; it is a wax only.

I can see that your gold bead front sight blade is an aftermarket item made by SDM. The installation job looks very good. It is a high quality addition to your gun. I would shoot the gun before you make a decision to change it out.
I use Mother's Mag Polish when I need to on my nickel guns. Use a very small amount with a very light touch. Take your time and don't try to do it all in one sitting. A soft cotton cloth is what I use.
Nice score you have there.
