Can revolvers with unfluted cylinders use leather holsters molded with the indentations made for revolvers with fluted cylinders?

Thanks!!

I have seen a lot of revolver holsters over the years and never saw one that had leather going into the cylinder flutes. That certainly doesn't mean they don't exist. I think the vast majority of revolver holsters you will find will work for both fluted and unfluted cylinders.

They are Leather, which means they will have some give. Bascially, I don't see any reason why it would be a problem, at most it may be a tick snugger at first but it time it will strech out.

I have four different holsters with the cylinder flute indentation. On none of them does it protrude inward more than 1/16". Really, it is there for looks more than function, and you'll be okay using one with an unfluted cylinder.

If there was a problem with fit induced by the fluted holster, I should think you could re-bone the holster to function with the unfluted cyllinder. Leather isn't that hard to work. It just needs to be wet.
Soak the holster in a bucket of water. Then place your gun in a plastic bag, or wrap it with Saran Wrap. Put the gun in the holster and with a plastic mallet(a leather mallet would be better) you can lightly tap the area around the cylinder to reshape it.

If the flutes are in the leather, the cylinder could develop shine or bluing wear at the contact points. Just re-bone the leather as described above. I prefer unfluted cylinders, and have done this numerous times.

I would sure try it "as is" at first and see how it goes. Over time it should be fine. Only as a last resort would I bother with the wetting etc process described above.

Soaking the leather won't damage the overall shape or fit of the holster?

Answer from Galco

Thank you for being a loyal Galco customer. Your S&W 627 will fit in the Silhouette Holster, the extra barrel length will not be an issue because of the design. The non-fluted cylinder work fine as well, however, it may take a bit more breaking in than usual. Our DRAW-EZ may help in that situation with the break-in, click on the link for more product detail.

I hope this helps. Please contact us if you have any further questions or to place your order.
