I believe it was a Don Hume front break.

The head of OSHP firearms training told me back in 1998 that the 681 was the best service weapon they ever had.

I passed one of these up a few years ago, wish I had picked it up as I like department marked guns.

I wish I had kept the ones I had in the past. A Detroit Official Police nickel 5 inch. Another OP marked Federal Reserve Bank of NY. An Indiana State Police model 66.....I gotta stop now, making me feel bad!

I do still have an OP out of the Indiana State Prison from 1929.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol issued a Smith & Wesson Brand breakfront security holster with the 681. It was a custom holster as it was a swivel holster. They also had a speed loader/handcuff case combo holder that carried two Safariland Comp II loaders this item was made by Don Hume. These had been around awhile as Smith & Wesson sold off the holster manufacturing portion of their business to Gould and Goodrich.

Hello,
How are these revolvers marked? Can you post a pic.

Hi, I didn't realize this original thread was a couple of years old. I would still like to see a pic if you are able to post one.

Here are two pics hope this is helpful.
